    Unexpectedly in hospital at Almonte on Wednesday, May 1, 2002. Doris E. Blakeley of Almonte, age 83 years. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence "Laurie" Morton and much loved mom of Donald (Tina) of Rindge, New Hampshire and Larry (Debbie) of Almonte. Loved grandmother of Adam, Donald, Andrew and Noah. Dear sister of Grace Hurdis of Carleton Place, Jean LeBlanc of Almonte and Earl of Ottawa. Predeceased by 1 sister; Thelma Robinson and 2 brothers, Donald and Murray. Friends may call at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte for visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and where Service will be held in the chapel on Friday at 2 p.m., Ven Rob. Davis officiating.     Thomas Eli Blakeney
    Thomas Eli Blakeney, better known as Tommy, 229 Ann Street, a long time resident of Almonte, died in the Almonte General Hospital on Tuesday, May 19th, following a lengthy illness. Born in Paris, Ontario, on June 12th, 1890, he was a son of the late John and Emma Blakeney and was in his 80th year at the time of his passing. For a time the family lived in Toronto, coming to Almonte 53 years ago, when he took a job working for his father, who was manager of the former Yorkshire Shoddy Mill, located at the foot of Mill Street, where he stayed until the mill closed a number of years ago. In the late 1920's and early 1930's he was trainer for the Almonte Senior Hockey team when hockey was at its height here. He was an ardent fisherman and was quite fond of gardening. Mr Blakeney was a member of the Almonte Volunteer Fire Brigade for 35 years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant. Fifty-seven years ago, in Toronto, he married the former Lillian Collinson, who survives along with four daughters and two sons, namely Grace (Mrs Boyd Hurdis), Norway Bay, Doris (Mrs Lawrence Morton), Almonte, Thelma, (Mrs Harold Robinson), Carleton Place, Earl, Almonte, Murray, Peterborough, Jean (Mrs Vern Le Blanc), Ottawa. One son, Donald is deceased. In addition he is survived by two sisters, Annas (Mrs Bill Pikard), Toronto and Edna (Mr Wilmer Illingworth), Almonte; three brothers, Bill of Almonte, Art and Jack of Simcoe. The funeral service, conducted by Rev R. McCrea, of the Almonte United Church, was held at the Comba Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon, May 21st, when a large number of friends and relatives were on hand to pay their last respects to a well-known resident of the town. The following members of the Almonte Fire Brigade acted as pallbearers: Durward Washburn, John LaMaistre, Frank Honeyborne, Ross Stanley, Keith Blakeney and Frank Lowe. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

    Thomas married Lillian Grace Collinson in 1914. Lillian was born on 13 Apr 1896 in Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada; died on 25 Apr 1988 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Lillian Grace Blakeley
    Lillian Grace Blakeley (Collinson) of Fairview Manor, Almonte, died at the Almonte General Hospital on Monday April 25, 1988 following a lengthy illness. She was in her 93rd year. Born in Toronto, Ontario on April 13, 1896, she was the daughter of the late W.F. Collinson and his late wife Eliza (Plummer). A resident of this district for 68 years, she was married to the late Thomas E. Blakeley at Toronto on June 17, 1914. A member of the United Church, she was also a member of the senior citizen organizations and a life member of Branch 240, Royal Canadian Legion, Almonte. She is survived by a son Earl of Ottawa and four daughters Grace Hurdis of Carleton Place, Doris Morton, Thelma Robinson and Jean LeBlanc, all of Almonte. Also by a sister Mrs Marjorie Fevreau of Colborne, Ontario. Funeral service took place from the Gamble Funeral Home, Almonte, on Wednesday April 27, 1988 at 2 pm with Rev Jack Lougheed officiating. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Vaughan, Raymond Illingsworth, Fred Larose, Robert Warren, Robert Green and Arthur Desarmia.

    John Blakeley
    The funeral of John Blakeley, prominent business man, whose sudden death on Thursday, caused keen regret throughout the town took place on Saturday from the family home on Malcolm Street, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, and was the occasion of an impressive tribute, by the large gatherings of citizens, representing every phase of the life of the town. to the very high esteem and popularity, of one whose loyal and kindly disposition had won a host of friends during the years he had lived here. It was conducted under Masonic Auspices and local and visiting Masons in large numbers marched in a body at the head of the cortege. The Board of Education of which deceased was a member also attended in a body. The deceased was an attendant of the Presbyterian Church here. Impressive services were conducted at the home by the Rev J.R. MacCrimmon. The relatives at the funeral from out of town were: Mrs J.W. Barras (daughter), Toronto; Mrs Willard Hicks (sister), and Mr Hicks, Toronto; brothers, Joseph Blakeley and Walter Blakeley of Paris ad Smith Blakeley of Hamilton; James Williams, Branford, (nephew); Other friends from out of town were Mrs W.R. Collinson, Toronto, W.L. Good Montreal; A.L. Code and J. Douglas, Perth; H. Steet, D.B. Taylor, J. Garvin, and Mrs W. Houston, of Carleton Place; Alex Wilson and Lloyd Smith, St Hyacinthe, Que; T.A. Thompson, Mr and Mrs S.G. Lowry, George Lowry, Jas Drynan; Percy Drynan, of Ramsay; Mrs Wilbert Fulton, Cedar Hill; Dr J. Mackintosh Bell, Ottawa, and many others. The pallbearers were: Messrs Nelson Washburn, Dr W.M. Johnson, Ed Nicholson, J.B. Illingworth, John Lindsay and Max Young. Many messages of sympathy were received by the bereaved family and a large number of beautiful floral tributes.

    John married Margaret Emma Wilson in 1918. Margaret was born in Feb 1869 in Paris, Brant County, Ontario, Canada; died on 4 Jan 1965 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     BLAKELEY -- Margaret Emma
    At the Drynan Rest Home, Almonte, Monday January 4th, 1965. Margaret Emma Wilson, beloved wife of the late John Blakeley and dear mother of Thomas, William and Edna (Mrs Wilmer Illingsworth), Almonte, Annis (Mrs Joe Barns), Toronto, Art and Jack, Simcoe. In her 90th year. Rested at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte, where service was held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Entombment in Auld Kirk Cemetery Vault. Interment in the Spring.
