Obit. ? Miss Margaret Edith Dunlop Gemmill
Early last winter Lieut.-Col. Gemmill accompanied his
younger daughter, Margaret Edith Dunlop, to California, in
the hope that the change would be beneficial to her health.
Unfortunately it was not, and on Friday of last week, April
11th, she passed away in the Hotel Virginia, at Long Beach,
Cal., where she was stopping with her sister, Winnifred.
Arrangements were made for bring the body east for burial,
and on Wednesday evening Lieut.-Col. Gemmill, Miss
Gemmill and Mrs .A. Gemmill of Ottawa reached Almonte
with the remains, and were met at the station by a number
of friends. The body was taken to the home of Mrs M.
Patterson, whence the funeral will take place on Friday
afternoon at 3 o'clock to St. Andrew's church where service
will be held, and afterward interment will be made in the
family plot at the Eighth Line cemetery. Much sympathy is
felt for the family, and especially for Mr Gemmill, upon
whom the bereavement fall with added weight because of
the camaraderie which exited between him and his
daughter.

Also William Muirhead GEMMILL, infant twin son of said John and Margaret GEMMILL died 14 Feb 1833,
and their other twin son James Dunlop GEMMILL, Lt. Colonel 42nd. Regiment Canadian Militia, born 31 Jan 1833, and who died in London England, 18 Aug 1929 and is buriedhere.
His wife Katherine Murdock KNIGHT died 18 Mar 1908 and was buried in Rome Italy.
John Alex GEMMILL, born in Glasgow Scotland 26 Oct 1816, came to Canada with parents in 1821, died at Pakenham 15 Feb 1876. His wife Janet daughter of Dr. CANNON late of Royal Navy born at Hastings England, 22 Feb 1822 and died 9 Nov 1895, their son John Alexander GEMMILL, Barister born in Carleton Place 20 March 1846, died at Cliffside Ottawa, 7 Nov 1905.
Margaret Edith, younger daughter of James Dunlop GEMMILL and Katherine Murdock KNIGHT, his wife born in Montreal 25 April 1882, died in California U.S.A. 10 Apr 1913.

We regret to announce the death of Mrs Dunlop
Gemmill, wife of Lt-Col James Dunlop Gemmill of Almonte,
which took place at her residence at Rome,, Italy, 25 via
Emilia, on Wednesday, the 18th of March, at seven o'clock
in the morning of acute peritonitis. The news of the death
was quite unexpected and came as a great shock to all who
knew her in Canada and elsewhere, as she was only ill for
eleven days, and even her family, who were with her till the
end, did not anticipate a fatal termination to her illness, nor
realize the sad truth till about twelve hours before she died.
Besides her husband the deceased leaves two daughters,
Winifred and Edith, to mourn her loss, and four sisters, all
resident in Montreal, viz., Miss Louie Knight, Mr T. Smeaton,
Mrs T. Cooper and Mrs Stuart, also two brothers,
James M. Knight of Leadville, Col., and Harry Knight of
Boulder, Col. Mrs Dunlop Gemmill before her marriage was
Miss Katherine Knight, third daughter of the late George
Knight, Esq., of Glasgow, Scotland sometime manager of
the Ayrshire railway and latterly of the Clyde Trust, and was
married in 1877 at Montreal, by Rev Gavin Lang to Lt-
Colonel James Dunlop Gemmill of this town. The funeral
took place on the 20th of March to the Protestant cemetery
of the Testaccio at Rome,.......
