    Eula Marie Duncan, 98, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away at her home in Burlington on Friday, April 25, 2008.

    She was born on May 14, 1909 in Dollarville, Michigan, the daughter of Frank & Clara Carlson Goodyear.

    Eula moved to the Eutopia area east of Sedro-Woolley with her family in 1912 and was raised and attended grade school there. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1927 and then attended and graduated from Cheney State College with a teaching degree.

    Eula taught school for several years until she was united in marriage to John C. 'Pete' Duncan in Idaho on March 21, 1936.

    They made their home in Sedro-Woolley and in 1937 their daughter, Darlene, was born and Eula's primary focus was to her family, being a devoted wife and mother. She also worked at the family lumber mill, Goodyear Nelson, for several years.

    With her family Eula enjoyed traveling the country in their RV, and she was quite an accomplished hunter and fisherman.

    Eula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete, in 1979; daughter, Darlene, in 2007; her sister and brother-in-law, Frances & Chester DeWitt; and nephews, Gary & Bill DeWitt.

    She is survived by two nieces: Molly (LeRoy) Sackman, of Burlington, and Jean DeWitt, of Sedro-Woolley; five great-nieces: Melanie (Ralph) Leaning, of Tacoma, Candy (Dale) Taylor, of Moses Lake, and Julie (Rick) Tingley, Kristin Nelson and Stacy Dean, all of Sedro-Woolley; great-nephew, Steven DeWitt, of Sedro-Woolley; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

    A Life Celebration gathering will be held at Eula's home at the Creekside Retirement Community, 413 Alissa Lane in Burlington on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM.

    Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

    Eula married John Clive "Pete" Duncan on 21 Mar 1936 in Idaho, United States. John (son of William Duncan and Emma Carlson) was born on 15 May 1908 in Alpena, Alpena County, Michigan, United States; died on 1 Oct 1979 in Snohomish County, Washington, United States; was buried in Sedro-Woolley, Skagit County, Washington, United States.
