    Born in Chilliwack to parents Fred and Pearl (Simpson) Toop, granddaughter of Chilliwack pioneers Sampson and Emma Toop, died peacefully at Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission.

    Evelyn was married to Roy Edwards on June 23, 1936 and together they raised five children.

    Evelyn will be missed by sister Edna and brother Edgar, sons Robert, Ronald (Carolyn), Harley (Dawn) and daughters Myrna and Sharie (Arnie). Grandchildren Lorelei, Melanie (John), Stephen (Tracey), Tamara (Greg), Marlo (Steve), Jaida (Darrell), Niki (Darcy), Loni (Robin) and Erin (Randy), 15 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their families, plus many friends. The Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays have lost an avid fan.

    Pre deceased by husband Roy, brother Earl, sister Ethel and granddaughter Denise.

    Evelyn lived in Chilliwack until 2007, when she moved to Hallmark on the Lake in Abbotsford.

    She was second to none as a Mom and touched many lives in a positive way in her 101 years. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and all of her friends new and old.

    Chilliwack pioneer Fred Toop, a resident of the Fraser Valley since his birth in 1886, died May 30 at Chilliwack General Hospital in his 90th year.
    Mr. Toop was a retired dairy farmer and was formerly of 134 Gore Avenue.
    He was presented with a 65-year IOOF membership pin in 1975 and was past grand, past chief patriarch of Chilliwack encampment No. 3, a long-time member of Ruth Rebekah Lodge No. 4 and a charter member of Canton No. 42, Valley United Patriarchs Militant.
    Mr. Toop farmed for many years on part of the original homestead on Sumas Prairie Road where he and his wife Pearl attended Sumas United Church.
    He was a life member there and was president of the church board of management for 29 years.
    Always active in community affairs, he was vice-president of the White Cane Club and is a former director of the Chilliwack Regional Fall Fair. With Stewart Dixon he organized the Junior Farmers' club, now called the 4-H club.
    Mr. Toop is survived by his wife Pearl; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Edwards, Chilliwack, Mrs. Ethel Anderson, Victoria, Mrs. Edna Brooks, Victoria; one son, Dr. Edward Toop, St. Albert, Alberta; 15 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 at Henderson's Funeral Chapel. Burial follows at IOOF cemetery.

    Pearl Edith fJF Menholm Rd., Chilliwack, passed away April 14, 1988 at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 92. Born Sept. 29, 1895 at Winnipeg, Man., she lived in the Chilliwack area for 80 years. toop She was a housewife at home. She was a member of Sumas United Church and superintendent of its Sunday School. She produced many Christmas concerts. She enjoyed entertaining many groups with her comic recitations. With the Ruth Rebekah Lodge 7, she was a Past Noble Grand and financial secretary as well as a life member. For many years, she was a member of the Willing Workers Group of the Chilliwack United Church.
    Funeral service was held April 18 from the chapel of Henderson's Funeral Home with Rev. Reg Brown officiating. Interment was at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
    Casketbearers were Robert Edwards, Ronald Edwards, Harley Edwards, Bruce Morrison, John Anderson, and David Brooks.
    She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Evelyn and Roy Edwards of Sardis, Ethel and Robert Anderson of Victoria, Edna annd Lloyd Brooks of Victoria; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Edgar and Muriel Toop of St. Albert, Alta.; 15 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; sisters Emily Hogg of White Rock, Lillian Bradwell of Chilliwack, Roberta Wilson of Hope; and by her brother Wesley Simpson of Sardis.

    At noon on Monday, December 29, Frederick Wesley Toop and Pearl Edith Simpson were united in marriage by Rev. A. K. Roberts in the Methodist church. Albert Hall and Miss Alma Campbell were the witnesses to the ceremony. The bridegroom is the son of Sampson Toop of Sumas, and is president of the Sumas Epworth League, while the bride is the daughter of Robert M. Simpson of South Sumas, and is secretary of the league. The happy couple will spend their honeymoon visiting the Sound cities, joining home by way of Victoria, and will reside at Sumas on the Toop homestead. The many friends, both in Sumas and Chiiliwack, extend hearty congratulations to the young couple.

    Stricken with a heart attack while letting some cattle out to pasture on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 14, Robert M. Simpson of Atchelitz passed away shortly after he went indoors to rest. Born at Ashton, Ontario, 63 years ago, the late Mr. Simpson came to the Fraser Valley twenty - five years ago and had been a well known and respected citizen of the district since that time. Prior to coming here he resided in Winnipeg.
    Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. F. Toop and Roberta Simpson, South Su - mas; Mrs. J. Hogg, Sumas; Mrs. George Bradwell, South Sumas, and Mrs. Harold Bradwell, Radium Hot Springs; and four sons, Cecil of Rosedale, and William, Joshua and Wesley of South Sumas.
    Mrs.. Simpson was in the south at the time of her husband's passing, the funeral arrangements were held over till her arrival. The funeral took place Wednesday from chilliwack United Church, with interment in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.

Simpson, who was well known in the Ottawa district, passed away recently at his home in Smiths Falls, at the age of 89 years, following a short illness which was attributed to a fall. Deceased was born at Ashton, where he resided till 15 years aso, when he retired from farming and took up his residence in Smiths Falls. He was the last of a family of seven sons and five daughters. Surviving are three sons: Willoughby, of Edmonton: Robert of Chilliwark, B.C.; and Joshua of Smiths Falls; and four daughters: Mrs. Robert Shilllngton, Moose Jaw; Mrs. W. J, Bleeks, Winnipeg; and Misses Maude and Pearl Simpson, Smiths Falls. The funeral took place to Munster Union cemetery, the services being conducted by Revs. Ellis and Bradfoid. The pall bearers were Messrs Kidd, Clayton, Ormond and James Simpson, and Milton and Willard Graham. Many floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community.Funeral service conducted by the Revs. Ellis and Bradford.
