    Peacefully at Carleton Place Hospital with Dorothy by his side on Friday, May 6, 2016, age 86.

    Loving husband and soul mate of Dorothy (nee Gardiner) for 66 years. Devoted father of Donna (Larry) James, Debbie Ferrill and Chris Ferrill. Proud Grandpa of Sarah James, Emily (Adam Friday) James, Robin Watkinson, Kirsten (Rob Irvine) Ferrill, Jamie (Dave Dimmer) Ferrill and Kelsey Ferrill. Loving Great-Grandpa of Ella James-McGee. Dear brother of Ted (Heather), sisters-in-law Terry and Sharon Ferrill, brother-in-law Allan (Shirley) Gardiner, sister-in-law Shirley (Frank-deceased) Surette, Several nieces and nephews and dear friends. Predeceased by brothers Tom, Bill, Doug, Don and Roger.

    Ray's entire career was in finance-Spruce Falls Power and Paper Co., RCAF, Revenue Canada and DND. No computers for him-just paper and pencil and he was content.
    Family and friends may visit the family at the Alan R Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. until time of funeral service in the chapel at 1 p.m. with the Venerable G.E. Peddle officiating. Reception will follow. Inurnment at St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Innisville.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Carleton Place Hospital Foundation or the charity of one's choice.

    The family would like to thank the CCAC Care Partners for their compassion, the caring staff of Carleton Place Terrace, Carleton Place Hospital Emergency Staff and a special thanks to family physician Dr. Scott Higham for the years of dedicated care and concern.

    The funeral of Samuel John Gardiner took place on Monday, March 4, 1974 from the Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Ave. to St. James Anglican Church where the service was conducted by the Reverend F. A. McGregor, assisted by the Reverend D. F. Weegar. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, Innisville, where Reverend H. H. Brown assisted Mr. Gardiner passed away on Friday, March 1, at his home in The Carlebridge, 81A Bridge St., Carleton Place. Born in Scotch Corners, Beckwith Township, July 17, 1904, he was the son of the late Thomas James Gardiner and his wife, the late Sarah Jane Rathwell. He attended St. John's Church, Innisville, then St. James Church after 1948, when he moved to Carleton Place. He is survived by his wife, the former Elsie M. Miller, of Carleton Place, his son, Allan, of town, two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Ray Ferrill) Ottawa, Shirley (Mrs. Frank Surette) Quebec City, P, Q. and ten grandchildren, Ted, Gwen, Rodger, Lorelei, Robbie, Donna, Debbie, Chris, Sharon and Adele; also a sister, Alice (Mrs. Cecil Jackson), Innisville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Oliver and George. Honourary pallbearers were Mr. Alfred Poole, Mr. James C. Gardiner, Mr. Herb Rathwell, Mr. William Armstrong, Mr. George Crampton and Mr. Charles Menzies. Acting pallbearers were Mr. Francis Gardiner, Mr. Mel Dowdall, Mr. Thomas Gardiner, Mr. Arnold Jackson, Mr. Donald Miller, Mr. Frank Lowe.

    Final Tribute Paid W.J. Miller?/b?
    On Tuesday, September 14th a large number of friends and relatives paid final tribute to the memory of William J. Miller at his funeral, from the Scott Funeral Home, Almonte. He was the eldest son of the late William G. Miller and his wife Agnes Baird. Born in 1880 on a farm near Rosetta, he came with his parents to the farm near Halpenny where he spent nearly 70 years. In 1903 he married Lauretta Robertson of Union Hall and on December 31st, 1953 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He is survived by his widow; four sons, Bert, Ramsay, John on the homestead, Leonard, Innisville, Raymond, Herron Bay, South; two daughters Mrs Samuel J. Gardiner, (Elsie), of Carleton Place, and Mrs Eldin G. Currie (Agnes), of Almonte. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert, of Pakenham, James, Ramsay, one brother John predeceased him in 1942. The pallbearers were six nephews, Charles Miller, Robert Miller, Walter Bourke, Morley McIntosh, Creighton Robertson, and Mervyn Roberts. Service in Guthrie United Church Clayton was conducted by Rev W. D. Reid, Carleton Place a former minister of Clayton United Church. During the service Mr Neil McIntosh sang, "Harbour Bar." Interment was in the family plot at Clayton.

    William married Mary Lauretta "Laura" Robertson on 31 Dec 1903 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Mary (daughter of William F.     Mary Lauretta (Laura) Miller passed away in the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital on Monday, November 27th, after a short illness. Born September 16, 1881, she was the eldest in the family of the late William Robertson and Mary Ann Scott of Union Hall and the beloved wife of the late William J. Miller. Mrs. Miller is survived by her six children, Elsie (Mrs. Samuel J. Gardiner), Carleton Place: W. Bert, Almonte, R.R. 2; Agnes (Mrs. Eldin Currie). Almonte; John R., Almonte, R.R. 2; Leonard S., Iroquois; Raymond S.B., St Catherines; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; one sister, Nellie (Mrs Harry McIntosh), Perth; a brother, Gordon Robertson Salmon Arm, B.C. She was predeceased by a brother Roy of Union Hall in 1971. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, on Wednesday, November 29th. The service was conducted by the Rev Gordon C. Smyth, B.A. Interment was in the family plot in the United Church cemetery, Clayton. The pallbearers were Eldon Ireton, Neil mcIntosh, Edwin Halpenny, Robert Miller, Earl Sweeney and Westly Paul.
