Final Tribute Paid W.J. Miller?/b?
On Tuesday, September 14th a large number of friends and relatives paid final tribute to the memory of William J. Miller at his funeral, from the Scott Funeral Home, Almonte. He was the eldest son of the late William G. Miller and his wife Agnes Baird. Born in 1880 on a farm near Rosetta, he came with his parents to the farm near Halpenny where he spent nearly 70 years. In 1903 he married Lauretta Robertson of Union Hall and on December 31st, 1953 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He is survived by his widow; four sons, Bert, Ramsay, John on the homestead, Leonard, Innisville, Raymond, Herron Bay, South; two daughters Mrs Samuel J. Gardiner, (Elsie), of Carleton Place, and Mrs Eldin G. Currie (Agnes), of Almonte. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert, of Pakenham, James, Ramsay, one brother John predeceased him in 1942. The pallbearers were six nephews, Charles Miller, Robert Miller, Walter Bourke, Morley McIntosh, Creighton Robertson, and Mervyn Roberts. Service in Guthrie United Church Clayton was conducted by Rev W. D. Reid, Carleton Place a former minister of Clayton United Church. During the service Mr Neil McIntosh sang, "Harbour Bar." Interment was in the family plot at Clayton.

Robertson and Mary Ann Scott) was born on 16 Sep 1881 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 27 Nov 1972 in Carleton Place, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 29 Nov 1972 in Clayton United Church Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Mary Lauretta (Laura) Miller passed away in the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital on Monday, November 27th, after a short illness. Born September 16, 1881, she was the eldest in the family of the late William Robertson and Mary Ann Scott of Union Hall and the beloved wife of the late William J. Miller. Mrs. Miller is survived by her six children, Elsie (Mrs. Samuel J. Gardiner), Carleton Place: W. Bert, Almonte, R.R. 2; Agnes (Mrs. Eldin Currie). Almonte; John R., Almonte, R.R. 2; Leonard S., Iroquois; Raymond S.B., St Catherines; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; one sister, Nellie (Mrs Harry McIntosh), Perth; a brother, Gordon Robertson Salmon Arm, B.C. She was predeceased by a brother Roy of Union Hall in 1971. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, on Wednesday, November 29th. The service was conducted by the Rev Gordon C. Smyth, B.A. Interment was in the family plot in the United Church cemetery, Clayton. The pallbearers were Eldon Ireton, Neil mcIntosh, Edwin Halpenny, Robert Miller, Earl Sweeney and Westly Paul.

Mrs Wm Miller Dies In 95th Year?/b?
One of the oldest and best loved resident of the Union Hall and Clayton district passed peacefully to rest on Sept, 25th at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs Eldin Currie in the person of Mrs Wm Miller, Sr. The deceased whose maiden name as Agnes S. Baird was born in Dalhousie township and was in her ninety-fifth year. She lived there until in 1879. After the death of her husband in 1890 she lived with her son Wm J. Miller in Lanark township. The family consisted of four sons all of whom are still living with the exception of John B. who died in 1942. The deceased familiarly known as "Grandma Miller" led a very active life and was always ready to respond to any call in time of trouble. She was a faithful member of the United Church, Clayton and in her active years took her part in all church activities. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, Wm J., Albert G., and James L. There are also 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The funeral which took place on Sunday from the Scott Funeral Home to Clayton United Church was one of the largest ever held in this community. The hymns sung were two of her favourites, "Rock of Ages" and "The Lord's My Shepherd." Mr Harold Stevens sang a solo, "There Are No Disappointments in Heaven." There were many beautiful floral tributes from friends and neighbours. The pall bearers were six grandsons: Robert Miller, Charles Miller, Bert Miller, Russell, Frank Lowe and Allan Gardiner. Friends were there from Toronto, Trenton, Kingston, Williamburg, Ottawa, Shawville, Lanark, Perth and Hopetown.
