A brief reference was made in the Gazette last week to the death of Mrs John Snedden, one of the oldest members of this community. She passed away on Saturday Feb. 5. just four days before her birthday which would have completed her ninety-four years of life. Annie Lindsay was her maiden name. She was the second daughter of the late John Lindsay and his wife, Elizabeth Leitch. She was born in 1833 on the 9th concession of Pakenham. About 73 years ago she was wedded to the late Mr. Snedden and their whole married life was spent at Bennies Corners until nine years ago when she came to Almonte to reside. To their union was born a family of five sons and five daughters of whom the surviving are: John of New York; James, of Big Creek, California; Lizzie, Mrs A. Naismith and Agnes, of Almonte; Annie, Mrs G. Toshack, of Blakeney; Margaret, Mrs F. Turnbull, of Regina. Her husband died about twenty years ago, and four of her children also predeceased her: Minnie, Mrs J. Houston, David, William and Matthew. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs Jane Beaton, of Callander, Ont., and two brothers, James Lindsay, of Pakenham, and John Lindsay, of Almonte. She leaves 3 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday, Feb 8, from the home of Mrs. A Naismith, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, where the remains were laid. Rev J.R. MacCrimmon, of Bethany Untied Church, of which church she had been a member for many years, conducted the service. The pallbearers were: Messrs, Malcolm MacFarlane, M.R. MacFarlane, Grenville Toshack, Wm. Phillip, Lawrence Naismith and Peter Syme. Amongst those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mrs W. Wilson, Misses A.T. Snedden and Matilda Snedden and Mrs George McCreary, of Ottawa; Mrs J. Dack, Mrs E. Lindsay, Mrs A. McNeely and Mrs W. Warren, of Carleton Place; Messrs. Alexander and Robert Snedden of Pakenham.
