    STANLEY BOAL - Funeral services for the late Stanley Boal were held at the Comba Funeral Home, Church street, on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 20th. The service was conducted by Rev. W. Henley of Pakenham, with interment made at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr. Boal passed away at Almonte General Hospital on Monday, Jan. 17th, at the age of 86 years. He was born in Pakenham township, a son of the late William Boal and Mary Jane Stanley. He received his education at Cedar Hill, and farmed at Bennies' Corners until he retired in 1953. Mr. Boal was married in September, 1913, at Cedar Hill to May Bell Millar, who predeceased him in 1926. He was a member of the United Church. He is survived by three daughters, Lulu, Mrs. Orvil Abbott of Brockville; Ione, Mrs. Clare Syme of Ramsay, and Jean, Mrs. Clarence McInerney of Minden. One son, Harvey, predeceased him in, 1958. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Boal of Pakenham and Harvey Boal of Vancouver, B.C. Three brothers, Stuart, George and Louis are deceased. Pallbearers at the funeral were Bill Boal, George Abbott, Clarence Boal, Wilfred Gilmour, Millar Struthers and Terry Gorman.

    Mrs. Stanley Boal
    Mrs. Stanley Boal of Cedar Hill, died on Monday after a lingering illness. Her maiden name was Mary Bell Millar, daughter of the late Adam Millar, of Cedar Hill, of revered memory, and Mrs. Millar, of Almonte. She was forty years of age. The sadness of her early death is intensified by the fact that she leaves behind her four little children to mourn her loss. The eldest is eleven years old and the youngest four. They are; Lulu, Iona, Harvey and Jean. To these motherless little children and to Mr. Boal the deepest sympathy of the community is extended. The late Mrs. Boal was born and educated at Cedar Hill. She spent a good deal of her early life in Almonte and had very many friends. Her high standard of character and her winning ways endeared people to her. Twelve years ago she was married at Almonte by Rev. Mr. Hicks to Mr. Stanley Boal and made her home with him at Cedar Hill. She was a devout member of the Methodist church and prominent in all its activities. The sad circumstances brought a very large concourse of mourners to the funeral, which was held on Wednesday from the family home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. H. H. Hillis, of Pakenham, her pastor, conducted the service which was very impressive. The pallbearers were Messrs; P. Simms, J. Snedden, George Stanley, Alex Cochran, W. Smithson and Wm. Connors. The floral offerings included those from the immediate family, mother and family, Mr. Ryerson Millar, Mr. Leach, Misses Irene and Meda Millar, Mrs. George, Robert and Stuart Boal, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blake, Mrs. Beggs, and family, Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow, Mr. and Mrs. Bourke, Mr. and Mrs. R. Hodgins, the school section No. 10, Women's Institute, Nursing Staff of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, N. Y., Miss Bell Johnston of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mr. George Stanley and others. Besides her husband and children she leavers her mother, who resides at Almonte, five sisters and five brothers; Tena, Mrs. H. Gillard, of Wapella, Sask,; Lita, Mrs. R. Struthers, of Appleton; Christopher, of Virden, Man.; Peter of Arnprior; Ryerson of Whitby, Ont.; Elbert, on the homestead; Effie, Mrs. R. Fulton, of Pakenham; Meda of Brooklyn, N. Y.; Harvey at home; Irene at Stamford, Conn. All the family were present at the funeral except Christopher and Tena.

    Death of William Boal
    A well known resident of Pakenham Township, passed away after a short illness, on Friday, July 31, in the person of William Boal. Deceased, who was a son of the late Robert Boal, was born about seventy-four years ago on the sixth concession, Pakenham, where he spent all his life. In 1876 he married Miss Mary L. Stanley of Pakenham, who predeceased him in February, 1923. This union was blessed by a family of seven sons, of whom five survive; Stanley of Bennies Corners; Geo W., Robert and Stuart in Pakenham Township; and Harvey of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan. He is also survived by one brother and sister. The funeral took place on Sunday, August 2, from his late residence at the sixth line, Pakenham, to the eighth line cemetery, Ramsay, where interment was made beside his late wife. Rev H.H. Hillis conducted the funeral service.

    William married Mary Jane Stanley in 1876.     Mrs William Boal
    On Friday, February 2, Mary J. Stanley, aged 65 years passed away. Deceased was a daughter of Richard Stanley and Sarah Owens, one of the first settlers in the Cedar Hill district. About six months ago she became ill with cancer of the stomach and although she consulted the best specialists in the country she could obtain no relief. In 1876 she was married to William Boal and moved to the farm where she spent the remainder of her days. Always active and industrious she was always an enthusiastic worker in the social life of the community. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, the choir, the Women's Institute and the school board. The family consisted of seven boys Robert M., Stanley, George W. and Stuart, all residing in the neighbourhood, Harvey in Moose Jaw, Sask., and Louis, who died about nine years ago and one who died in infancy. One brother and four sisters also survive her. At her request, the choir of which she was a member, sang her favourite hymns at the service. The pallbearers were Messrs. S. Lowry, J. Dowdall, A. Melanson, W. Connors, F. Forsythe and W. West.

    Adam Millar Dies Very Suddenly
    Prominent Citizen Passes Away In Bed. Heart Failure the Cause
    One of the best known men of North Lanark died suddenly at his home in Almonte on Tuesday morning. The evening before he was in excellent health and good spirits, and had spent a pleasant hour with his family. Next morning about 6.30 o'clock he was talking to Mrs Millar. He was still in his room. When she called him a little later he was dead. Heart failure was the cause. The late Mr Millar was a native of Pakenham township. He was a very successful farmer, and was recognized as a authority upon agricultural matters. He retired about two years ago and came to live in Almonte. He was 70 years of age. Forty-one years ago he was married to Miss Margaret Mick, of Micksburg, who with eleven children suvive him. They are Mrs H. Gilliard, Wapella Sask; Mr C.W. Millar, Verdun, Man.; Mrs Robert Struthers, Appleton; Mrs Stanley Boale, Ramsay; Mr Peter R. Millar, Arnprior; Mrs Ryerson Millar, Almonte; Mrs Robert Fulton, Ramsay; Mr Elbert Millar, on the homestead; Misses Meda and Irene Millar and Mr Harvey Millar at home. Two brothers of the late Mr Millar also survive him, Messrs Peter and Young Millar, of Pakenham, and a sister, Mrs Margaret Mills, Pembroke. The funeral was very largely attended on Thursday, old friends coming from far and near to pay their last respects to one who commanded the respect of the community to an unusual degree. He was a Methodist in religion. Rev William Howitt conducted the service and the remains were interred in the Eighth Line cemetery. the pallbearers were all nephews: Messrs Ernest, William, Albert, Richard, Willie and John Millar

    Mrs Adam Millar
    A well known and respected resident of town passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs Robert Struthers, near Appleton on Saturday, December 5th, in the person of Margaret Mick, relict of the late Adam Millar, after a few weeks' illness, from heart trouble. Deceased was born at Mickburg, about 75 years ago, where she spent her early life. About 52 years ago she married the late Mr Millar and settled on Bellamy Road, Pakenham Township, where she resided until about 13 years ago, when she moved to town, where she since resided. This union was blessed by a family of 11 children, ten of whom survive: ? Mrs H. Gilliard, of Wapella, Sask.; C.W. Millar, Verdun, Man.; Mrs R. Struthers, Appleton; Ryerson Millar, Toronto; Mrs Robert Fulton, Pakenham; P.R. Millar, Arnprior; Elbert Millar on the homestead, Harvey Millar at home, Mrs Arthur Leach of Smiths Falls, and Miss Irene in New York. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs Boland of Pembroke, Mrs Hodgins of Carp, and Mrs Burke, who is now on her way back from a trip to the west, to spend the winter with Ottawa friends. Her husband predeceased her 11 years ago last June, and one daughter, Mrs Stanley Boal a few years ago. The funeral took place from her late residence on Mitcheson Street, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, were interment was made beside her late husband. Rev A.J. Terrill, of Trinity Church, of which deceased was a member conducted the funeral service. The pallbearers were Messrs R. Struthers, Stanley Boal, W. Boland, A. Leach, R. Fulton and Y. Millar.
