    He was the son of Charles M. Powell and Nancy Smith Powell.

    He married Mary Elizabeth Parker about 1824 in Smith Co. Tennessee. They had four known children
    A son born about 1825; James Evans Powell Born 19 Nov 1828; Joseph Jasper Powell Born 3 July 1838 and Eliza Mack born 27 Feb 1840.

    They moved from Tennesse to Illinois in 1828. In 1840 they are listed in the Union Branch of the LDS Church which was near Perry, Pike County Illinois where they lived.

    In 1851-2 he was the proprietor of the Kanesville Meat Market in Kanesville Nebraska.

    The family traveled to Utah in the James McGaw Pioneer Company June 23/4 1852.

    His wife Mary Elizabeth Powell Parker died crossing the plains July 18, 1852 near North Platte, Lincoln, Nebraska. Levi continued on with his children where he settled in Provo Utah.

    He married second Jane James Wellwood Dack Workman between 1852 and 1856 in Provo Utah.

    They traveled to Gallatin County Montana in the James Green party May 22, 1864. Traveling with her children and his daughter Eliza Mack Powell Carter and family.

    Levi drowned in the Jefferson River in Gallatin County Montana.

Jane (daughter of William Thomas James, Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Chamney) was born on 15 Nov 1808 in County Wicklow, Leinster Province, Northern Ireland; died on 8 Feb 1870 in Willow Creek, Gallatin County, Montana, United States; was buried in 1870 in Mount Green Cemetery, Willow Creek, Gallatin County, Montana, United States.
