Merritt Fleming was the eldest son of Andrew and Susanna Fleming. He came to Deloraine in 1893 and took up a homestead at Nottingham 18 May 1901 on NW 14-5-32 w1. He married Elizabeth Kennedy at the home of her parents William and Cordelia (Burke) Kennedy in April of 1907. They moved to Oakley District in 1924 an farmed three quaters of section 23-4-33 W1. Merritt and Elizabeth were both members if the Loyal Orange Lodge of Rosebank and Carnduff. Merritt was fond of horses and enjoyed sports and Elizabeth enjoyed her garden, sewing and quilting. They had six children.
