Caroline Catherine Tosh
A former administrator of the Almonte General Hospital and former chair of this area's District Health Council died recently at the age of 79. Caroline Catherine Tosh died peacefully at the Almonte General Hospital (AGH) on Sunday, March 19, after almost two years of illness from cancer. Caroline C. Wacowich was born in Alberta, the daughter of Helen and Peter Wacowich, who had immigrated to Canada in the 1890s from Poland. She relocated to Montreal to attend McGill University and obtained a Bachelor of Nursing Science from McGill University in Montreal. She was a former teacher at the Montreal Neurological Institute, and served as the administrator of the AGH from 1962 to 1976. She also served six years on the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville District Health Council, including three years as chair in the early 1980s. Ms. Tosh was also an elder at Almonte Presbyterian Church, and past-president of the Ikebana Society, Ottawa Chapter, a Japanese flower arranging society. Ms. Tosh is survived by her husband of 46 years, Merv Tosh, her sister Louise Piska, and brothers Philip (Marie), Henry (Stella) arid Tony (Irene) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased her brother Leo. Visitation took place at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home and Chapel on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services took place on Tuesday, March 21 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Ferrier officiating at Almonte Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers were Stephen Tosh, Ryan Tosh, Peter Tosh, Jim Cochran, Greg Dunn and John Blais. Ms. Tosh's cremated remains were interned at Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Caroline married Mervin Clark Tosh in 1953. Mervin (son of Alexander Clark Tosh and Mary Christina "Chrissie" Bond) was born on 22 Oct 1922 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 10 Nov 2007 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was cremated on 14 Nov 2007 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
