    Pioneer resident Of Dominion City Dies At Age 84-
    Mrs. Ida Jane Simpson, 84, pioneer resident of Dominion City, Man. who died Saturday in Morris, Man. was buried Monday in Dominion City Cemetery following funeral service in Dominion City United Church, Mark Parsons officiated.
    Mrs. Simpson was born in Almonte, Ont. and came to Dominion City district in 1878 with her parents, via the Great lakes, the United States and the Red River steamer Lord Selkirk. Then settled near Roseau Crossing which later became Dominion City, a year before the railroad. Her mother the late Mrs. Robert Scott helped drive the last spike in the first rail line in the Canadian West.
    She was the first woman automobile driver in the district and for twenty years "drove the mail" from Dominion City to Greenridge and Woodmore. She was an active member of the United Church Ladies Aid and Women's Institute, Honorary President of the Canadian Women's Auxiliary and Honorary President and life member of the Ladies Curling Club.
    Her husband Willet Irvin died in 1917. A son, Robert, died in England during the First World War and another son Willett died in 1917.
    Surviving are two sons, Maurice and Earle, three daughters, Mrs. C.D. Gaynor, Mrs. W Lowe and Mrs. H. Anderson; one brother Will and three sisters, Laura, Lyla and Myrtle.

    The Winnipeg Tribune - December 25, 1925 - Dominion City Pioneer Dead - Robert O. Scott Came West From Ontario in 1876

    (Special to The Tribune) Dominion City, Man., Dec. 25 - The funeral was held here Wednesday of Robert O. Scott, pioneer of Dominion City, who came here in 1876. Service was conducted at 2 o'clock at his daughter's home by Rev. Mr. Spiers and Rev. Mr. Robinson, and burial took place in Dominion City Cemetery.

    The pallbearers were, George allen, D.H. McFadden, Emerson; J.D. Baskerville, A. Waddell, V. Scholte and R. Barber, Dominion City.

    Mr. Scott is survived by two sons, William, Boissevain, and Cuthbert, Dominion City, and five daughters, Mrs. Simpson, Dominion City; Mrs. Wellband, Strasbourg, Sask.; Mrs. Leonard, Saskatoon and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Brisley, Winnipeg. Death occurred Monday at the residence of Mrs. Simpson, his daughter.

    Born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1841, Mr. Scott came to Canada when six years of age. He settled with his parents at Almonte, Ont. Here he spent his boyhood years, coming to Manitoba at the age of 35.

    After living alone for a year on his farm at Dominion City, he returned east for his wife and family. Mrs. Scott was formerly Miss Lydia Acres, of Ottawa, and was well known in Manitoba. Upon the completion of the railway between Emerson and Winnipeg in 1879, Mrs. Scott drove in the last spike.

    Upon his return to Manitoba with his family in 1877, Mr. Scott brought them first by boat to Duluth and then down the Red River to Emerson.

    In Dominion City, Mr. Scott devoted much of his time to the welfare of the community. He served for 21 years on the council. In politics he was a strong Conservative. He was affiliated with the Orange lodge. A cousin was the late Lieut. Col. Scott, of Winnipeg.

    Robert O. Scott, Dominion City died at the age of 84, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.J. Simpson, Monday, December 21. Mr. Scott came to Canada at the age of six, from Belfast, Ireland and settled in Almonte, Ont. where he spent his boyhood days. In 1876 he came to Manitoba and took up a homestead in the Dominion City district. The following year he returned east for his wife, nee Lydia Acres, of Ottawa, and their four small children, travelling by boat by way of Duluth and Minneapolis, finally down to Red River to Emerson and settled on their homestead, where they faced all the hardships of pioneer life. Mr. Scott devoted much of his time in the interest of his adopted town, being a councillor for 21 years. He was a strong supporter of the Conservative party and a loyal Orangeman. In his later years he derived much pleasure from his gardening, being a great lover of flowers.
    His wife, who preceded him by a few years, helped drive the last spike in the C.P.R. line from Winnipeg to Emerson.
    Mr. Scott was a cousin of the late Lieut-Col Scott, of Winnipeg, and one of Dominion City's most respected and widely known citizens.
    The funeral took place Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Simpson, to the Dominion City Cemetery. the service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Spiers* assisted by the late Rev. Mr. Robinson.
    The pallbearers were Geo. Allen and W. H. McFadden, of Emerson, W.J. Baskerville. A. Waddell, V. Scholte, and R. Barber, of Dominion City.
    The deceased is survived by two sons, William Acres of Boissevain, Cuthbert, Dominion City, and five daughters, Mrs. Simpson, Dominion City, Mrs. Wellband, Strasburg, Sask. Mrs. Leonard, Saskatoon, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Brisley, Winnipeg.
