Clara Jane (Meredith) Poole - (30 September, 1878 - 6 May, 1974)
Clara Jane Poole passed peacefully away Monday, May 6, 1974, at the home of her daughter, Bernice, Mrs. Earl Cowan of Almonte.
Mrs. Poole was the eldest daughter of the late Thomas Meredith and his wife, Mary Ann Johnston, and was born September 30, 1878, at Cedar Hill. On January 17, 1906, Clara Jane Meredith married the late George Timmins Poole of Pakenham Township, where they farmed until 1922, when they purchased the farm on the 7th line of Ramsay, known as the Steele Farm. Mrs. Poole was an Anglican, belonging to the Guild in St. George's Church, Clayton, for a number of years.
Mrs. Poole leaves three daughters to mourn her loss, namely; Luella (Mrs. Stewart Paterson); Marjorie (Mrs. Wilbert McKay) , and Bernice (Mrs. Earl Cowan), all of Almonte, and mother to John Mann of Pakenham; and eight grandchildren. Three sisters also survive, Luella, Mrs. W. M. Griffth Oshawa; Archina, Mrs. E, N. Sadler, Haileybury, and Myrtle, Mrs. J. S. Pritchard, Arnprior. Deceased sisters are Loretta, Mrs. R. G. Tripp, Fitzroy Harbour; Lila, Mrs. H. J. Tripp, Arnprior; Roxena, Mrs. T. H. Kippen. White Lake, and Lena Meredith of Arnprior.
Funeral service was held from the Comba, Funeral Home, 127 Church, St., Almonte, Ont., on Thursday, May 9, to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Almonte. Rev. G. F. Bickley held a short service at the funeral home singing a favourite hymn of the deceased, "Nearer My God to Thee." Service at the church was conducted by Rev. H. H. Brown of St. George's Church, Clayton and Rev. G. F. Bickley of St. Paul's Anglican Church. Hymns sung were "Rock of Ages" and "For All the Saints Who From Their Labours Rest."
Interment took place in St. Mark's Cemetery, Pakenham. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Delmer G. S. Paterson, Allan J. Mann, Raymond J. Cowan, George W. McKay, Harold T. McKay and Arthur C. McKay.
Clara married George Timmins Poole on 17 Jan 1906. George was born in 1870; died in 1934; was buried in St. Mark's Anglican Cemetery, Pakenham, Mississippi Mills, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
