    SHANNON, Mabel - Mabel Harriet Shannon-Hurley of Brockville, passed away at the Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the age of 82 years. Born in Campbell's Bay, Quebec in 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Sterling Graham and Mildred McCreary. Sister of the late Dr. Keith Graham (Malaysia) and Catherine Taylor (Cardinal). Mabel enjoyed teaching in many schools in Brockville and area after graduating from Ottawa Teachers College in 1955. In 1957, she married Johnston Shannon and they moved to Brockville raising three sons Hunter, Lindsay and Graham. After being involved in many community activities, curling, YWCA, Wall St. Church, skiing and travelling, the cottage at Charleston Lake was very special to her and her family. In 1996, John passed away, leaving Mabel, Hunter, Lindsay, Graham (Janet), Faith and Jessica. After many travels, Mabel married John (Al) Hurley in 2006 and shared their family's holidays and dinners. Life was good as she was very busy with her many grandchildren. She will be remembered by Al's children, John Hurley (Norma), Carol Holmgren (Steve), Chris Hurley (Sharon), and Wendy Hurley, and by Al's other family members including Patrick (Amanda), Sean, Kevin, Matthew, Michael, Ben, and Alexis. Mabel's and Al's families would like to express their thanks to friends and those who gave their support and care over many years. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at IRVINE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL , 4 James Street East, Brockville on Sunday, April 9th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at Wall Street United Church, 5 Wall Street, Brockville on Monday, April 10th at 11 am. As expressions of sympathy, donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Brockville General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.     The Rev. Stirling A. Graham was the husband of Mildred McCreary, father of Dr. Keith Graham, of Malaysia; Catherine (Mrs. Charles Taylor), of Cardinal, and Mabel (Mrs. Johnson Shannon), of Brockville.

    He died in his 85th year at the Brockville General Hospital on Sunday Aug. 2, 1972.

    Blair and Son Funeral Home, 112 Beckwith St., Smith Falls assisted the arrangements. Funeral service was at the Free Methodist Church in Smiths Falls on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. Interment at the Wolford Cemetery.

    Hiram McCreary Paid Final Tribute
    Largely attended by many friends and former associates, the funeral of Mr. Hiram McCreary, former member of the Provincial Parliament, was held on December 28th from the home of his son, Harwood, who resides on the original McCreary homestead in Ramsay township. This is where McCreary's pioneer grandfather settled, when he emigrated from Ireland 132 years ago. A son of the late Joseph McCreary and his wife, Harriet Bailey, and the last member of their family of ten, he was married to the former Katherine McKay of Smiths Falls, who predeceased him in 1920. He passed away on December 25th, at the home of his daughter, Mr. S. A. Graham of Jasper, Ont., in his 92nd year. Mr. McCreary's interests included provincial, municipal, educational and religious affairs. He was a member of the County Cheese Board for many years, and served as secretary-treasurer and salesman of the IXL Cheese Factory. Services were held in Boyd's United Church, and conducted by Rev. N. C. McFarlane, assisted by Rev. J. E. Wilson of the Holiness Movement Church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Chief mourners were four daughters, Mrs. S. A. Graham (Mildred); Miss Harriet McCreary, Mrs. E. Blanchard (Annie ) , Miss Mabel McCreary, and one son, Mr. Harwood McCreary. Many beautiful floral tributes were received and donations to the Bible Society given in his memory. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Peter Moffatt, Oliver Dezell, Harold Stevens, Dr. R. H. McCreary, Daniel McCreary and Keith Graham.
