    Notes:

(Research):Discrepancies to by sorted out from Susana (Duncan) McGregor's obit.
She is reffered to as Catherine rather than Susana as wife of Walter Lawson. Perhaps this is a second give name but have no evidence of this.
She is mentioned as daughter of Duncan McGregor but is actually a step daughter of him. She is the daughter of John Duncan and Mary Gemmill. Mary married Duncan McGregor after John Duncan died in 1844.
The obit mentions three siblings. Agnes (Mrs W Barnett) of Arnprior (verified) but also Mrs J.R. McMunn and Duncan McGregor of California are probably 1/2 siblings but unverified.

An old resident of Almonte passed away at Quyon on New Year's day in the person of Catherine McGregor, wife of Mr Walter Lawson, at the age of 61 years. the deceased lady was for many years a resident of Almonte and Ramsay, leaving here for quyon about eight years ago. her death was not totally unexpected, as she had been ailing for a number of years, although not confined to bed. Mrs Lawson was a daughter of Mr. Duncan McGregor and was born in Ramsay. Mrs W Barnett, Arnprior, and Mrs J.R. McMunn are sisters of the deceased. Mr Duncan McGregor, California, is a brother. the funeral took place on Saturday from Quyon to the eighth line cemetery, via Pakenham, and was accompanied by a large number of sorrowing friends and acquaintances from both places. quite a number drove out from Almonte and joined the cortege as it neared the cemetery thus showing their respect for an esteemed friend, and their sympathy for the bereaved ones.

    Mortgage:
Although not proven this mortgage was likely for the building of a stone 2 storey farm house on lot 9 con10. The style and footprint of this stone house is very similar to that of the Duncan farmhouse built on lot 10 con 9. John was the second oldest son of Robert Duncan and Agnes Gifford. He married in 1838, bought the 200 acres of lot 9 Con 10 in 1839 and had a young family of two daughters. It is also believed that he worked closely with his father and older brother Robert to clear and crop the farmland they owed by this time. Unfortunately John died in October 1844 after his youngeres child, john Duncan was born in the spring of 1844. The cause of his death is not known but must of caused great upheaval with in the family. The is land record evidence that this farm was assumed by John Forgie althought there is record registering this sale on record. John Forgie sold the farm to a nephew Graham Gorgie for $2000. on 4 Jan 1853.
