    William MCILROY Sr was born on 1 Mar 1750 in Northern Ireland. He died on 11 Mar 1838 in Warren Co., New Jersey. He was buried about 13 Mar 1838 in McKinney Burial Ground, New Village, Warren, New Jersey. He was a Revolutionary War patriot. This information was given in Peggy Warne Chapter DAR, Newsletter Vol. 7, No. 1, p. 6:
    William and wife Elizabeth are buried in the McKinney Cemetery between New Village and Broadway. A copy of these cemetery records is in the files of the Nat'l. Society DAR. Peggy Warne Chapter member, Miss Kathryn S. Quigley, No. 318981, has previously used this line for membership. William McIlroy served as a Sergeant in the New Jersey Line (Ref. Stryker, p. 468). He was one of a group of Irish settlers in the Broadway-New Village area and is an especially interesting figure according to the following service record obtained from the Department of Defense, New Jersey: "IT IS CERTIFIED, That the records of this Department show that WILLIAM McILROY served in the active military forces from New Jersey during (the) period of the Revolutionary War, 1775-1783, as follows:
    While a Private in the British Army, deserted at Boston in the Spring of 1775. Private, under Captains James Boyd and Andrew McMyer, Colonel William Winds' First Regiment, New Jersey Continental Line: enlisted in Fall of 1775, for one year. Was on Northern Expedition under Colonel Winds. Sergeant, Captain James Bonnell's Company, State Troops, stationed on the frontiers of Sussex County; enlisted Apr. 1, 1782; discharged December 15, 1782; on furlough at Greenwich from July 17 to Aug. 6, 1782. Received Certificates signed by Joseph Gaston, dated May 1, 1784, for the depreciation of his Continental pay for services as Sergeant, Captain Bonnell's Company, Sussex County Militia, as follows: No. 405, for L17:7:6 No. 406, for L16:0:0 Age shown as 25 years. Affidavit for pension taken in Warren County, New Jersey, 1832. A paragraph in the accompanying letter reads as follows: Jan. 29, 1964. "Would advise that while this soldier's surname is shown as McElroy, McIlroy, and Muckleroy, our record has been compiled under the spelling 'McElroy' for the reason that this soldier filed for pension under such name." Our cooperative Warren Co. Supervisor, Mr. William Burns, made a personal investigation before requesting that this man's name be placed on his official roll and we have soon to hear of favorable action by the Veterans Administration.
