St. Andrew's United church, Pakenham, was filled to capacity for the funeral services of the late Mrs. Allan McCann, formerly Jean Clarissa Stewart, on Friday Jan. 3rd 1947.
In her 49th year, Mrs. McCann passed away peacefully early on New Year's morning at her late residence after a lengthy illness.
Born at Goshen in McNab Township, she was educated at S.S. No. 3 McNab, Renfrew Collegiate Institute and Ottawa Normal School. Her eight years teaching included service at No. 2 Ross, No. 2 Fitzroy and No. 2 Pakenham.
At the time of her marriage in 1925, her home was on the 3rd line of Fitzroy, where the family moved in 1918.
Mrs. McCann is survived by her husband, two sons, Stewart and Keith of Pakenham; her mother, Mrs. Andrew Stewart of Pakenham; one sister and five brothers, Miss Helen Stewart, Reg. N. of Northampton, Mass.; Dr. John from Bellows Falls, Vermont; Barclay and Lloyd of Kinburn; Dr. William from Watervleit, N.Y., and Arthur of Almonte.
The late Mrs. McCann was interested in Community affairs, and was a devout member of the United church where she served in many of its activities. For years she taught a class in Sunday School, was a valued member of the Women's Association and gave generously of her time and talents to the work of the Women's Missionary Society. Besides holding various offices in the local auxiliary she was well known thoughout Renfrew Presbyterial through her work as Mission Band Secretary.
During her illness she was constantly remembered by friends near and far and on her death many beautiful floral offerings were received which showed the appreciation of loving friends.
The pallbearers were: Edgar McCann, Stuart Fulton, Gordon Sadler, John Early, Dan Early and Allan Early, all first cousins of the deceased.
Interment was made in the family plot in the Union Cemetery in Pakenham with service conducted by Rev. H.A. Turner.
Among those attending from a distance were her aunt, Miss Mina Early from Montreal, Dan Early and Allan Early from Alton.
