WAS NEARING A CENTURY
Mr. Edward Nicholson, who died of Sunday, was a well known and much respected resident of the township of Ramsay. He came from England when a boy, and, with his parents settled on a farm on the 8th line. At the age of 25 years he married Miss Cecelia Sutherland, daughter of Mr. Geo. Sutherland, of Ramsay, who predeceased him about 15 years. In the meantime he bought a farm for himself near his parents and was on this farm the aged gentleman breathed his last. Since failing health compelled him to cease from work, his son, William, has worked the farm for him. Mr. Nicholson has been confined to bed since February and he gradually wasted away until death claimed him and he passed peacefully to his reward on Sunday at the venerable age of 96 years. The funeral took place on Tuesday from his home to the 8th line cemetery. Left to mourn the loss of a kind and Christian parent are six boys and four girls, one son John, having died about fourteen years ago. These remaining are George, of Wroxeter, Ont.; James North Dakota; David, of Banff Alta.; Edward and Joseph, of Almonte: and William on the homestead; Mrs G. Russell, Almonte; Mrs Crusoe, Sault Ste Marie; Mrs Moore, of the 7th line Ramsay, and Ellen, on the homestead.

Edward married Cecilia Sutherland in 1832. Cecilia (daughter of George Sutherland) was born on 30 Mar 1809 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; died on 30 Jul 1889 in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. 2. Matilda Nicholson was born on 10 May 1835 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Canada West; died on 15 Dec 1919 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 17 Dec 1919 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
3. James Nicholson was born on 14 Sep 1841 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Canada West; died on 1 Jan 1917 in Pembina County, North Dakota, United States; was buried in Bowesmont Cemetery, Bowesmont, Pembina County, North Dakota, United States.
