    Madeline Illingworth
    A longtime resident of the Carleton Place area, M. Madeline (Lockhart) Illingworth died at the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital on June 3, 1989. The daughter of the late William Lockhart and his wife Jean Houston, Madeline was born in Almonte. After completing her early education in Almonte, she pursued a career in nursing. Outside of work, she was a member of Zion Memorial United Church, Carleton Place. Madeline was married to Arnold Illingworth in Almonte on July 23, 1938. Aside from her husband, she is survived by four nieces and sister-in-law Edna Lockhart of Belleville. Predeceased by brother Gordon Edgar Lockhart. Rev W. McDowell officiated the funeral from the Kerry Funeral Home, Carleton Place, on June 5, 1989 at 11 a.m. Interment in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. Staff members of Kerry Funeral Home acted as pallbearers

    Wm. E. Lockhart
    Following an illness of five weeks, William Edgar Lockhart passed away in an Ottawa hospital on Thursday, Sept 29th in his 74th year. Born in Almonte, he was a son of the late Arthur Lockhart and his wife Margaret Cowie. In 1904 he married Miss Jean Houston of Almonte who survives. Most of his life was spent in Almonte where he followed his trade of painting and decorating until recent years when he and his wife lived with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Arnold Illingworth in Carleton Place. Besides his wife, he leaves one son Gordon of Belleville; one daughter, Madeline, Mrs Arnold Illingworth of Carleton Place; four brothers, Walter of Perth; Herbert of Ottawa; Harry of Carleton Place and Arthur of Almonte. There are also four grandchildren. The funeral service was held on October 1st at 2 p.m. at Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Carleton Place and interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev H.W. Giffin of Memorial Park United Church officiated. The pallbearers were Messrs M.R. Young, Martin Maxwell, Alex Houston, Dan Dutrizac all of Almonte; Elmer Barber and John McGregor of Carleton Place.

    Mrs W.E. Lockhart
    Mrs Jean Lockhart of Carleton Place, a lifelong Ottawa Valley resident, died Wednesday, Dec 26, at the Lyons Nursing Home after a long illness. She was 72. Born in Renfrew and educated in Almonte, she was a daughter of the late Edward Houston and the former Mary Trail. She was a member of the United Church. She married William E. Lockhart in 1904 in Almonte. He died one year ago. She is survived by one son Gordon, of Belleville; one daughter, Mrs Arnold Illingworth, (Madeline) of Carleton Place and four grandchildren. For the past nine years Mrs Lockhart lived with her daughter and her son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Arnold Illingworth. The funeral was on Saturday at the Fleming funeral home at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev H. Giffin. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. ? C.P. Canadian.

    The Late Arthur Lockhart
    Following a lengthened illness the death occurred on Monday of this week of Arthur Lockhart, in his 68th year. He was born in Almonte and lived his whole life here. His wife, who is still living, was Miss Margaret Cowie, and with her are left to mourn seven sons. These are Messrs Walter, William, Harry and Attie, of Almonte; John and Herb, of Ottawa; and Robert of Smiths Falls. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from his residence on Ottawa street to the eighth line cemetery, Rev S.G. Brown conducting the services at the house and grave. The pallbearers were six sons of deceased.

    Arthur married Margaret Cowie on 4 Sep 1873 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Mrs Arthur Lockhart
    The funeral of Mrs Arthur Lockhart Sr., of Almonte, took place from her residence, Ottawa street to the Auld Kirk cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon, pastor of the Bethany United Church, Almonte. The deceased was born on the Scotch line near Perth, in 1884 the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert Cowie, Her husband predeceased her several years ago. In her passing Almonte loses one of its oldest citizens, Surviving are seven sons, Walter, William, Harry, Arthur, of Almonte; John W., and Herbert, of Ottawa; Robert, of Smiths Falls, one sister, Mary, Mrs William Porteous, of Vancouver, B.C. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends.

    Edward John Houston of Almonte
    The death occurred Monday morning, of Edward John Houston, aged 79 years. he was born in Almonte, a son of the late Isabel Harrison and Robert Houston. Early in life he learned the bricklaying trade which he followed until passing years forced him to retire from active work. Mr Houston worked on most of the brick building erected in Almonte during the active period of his life, including the Penman plant on Mill street. Mr Houston married Mary Trail of Darling, who passed away some years ago. For many years he lived with his son James Houston, and following his death, two years ago, continued to live at the home of his daughter-in-law. he is survived by William of Carleton Place, and Mrs William Lockhart (Jean) of Almonte. Two sons James and Edward jr., predeceased him, the latter falling in the World War. There are also two brothers, Thomas of Arnprior, and William of Almonte. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock services being conducted at the home and the grave by Rev. A. McLauchlin. Pallbearers were Harry, Alex., Charles and George Houston.

    DEATH'S HARVEST
    Mrs Edward Houston, sr.
    Just a week ago today Mrs Edward Houston, sr., was taken ill of pleurisy, and on Tuesday she passed away at the age of 48 years. Deceased whose maiden name was Mary Traill, was a daughter of the late W. Traill, and was born in the township of Darling. She was married to Mr Houston in Renfrew twenty-nine years ago, and to them four children were born, three sons and one daughter. The boys are William, Edward and James and the daughter, Jennie, is Mrs Wm Lockhart. With the exception of a couple of years spent in Renfrew Mr and Mrs Houston have always lived in Almonte. The funeral take place this (Thursday) afternoon from the family residence, New England, to the eighth line cemetery.
