    JAMES LLOYD MILLER
    The death. of Mr. James Lloyd Miller of R.R, 2 Almonte, occurred on Tuesday evening, February 19, 1974, at the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital. He was 85. Born in Lanark Township on October 7, 1888, he was a son of the late William Miller and his, wife, Agnes Baird. He received his education at James' school, and spent his lifetime farming on the first line of Ramsay. On August 30, 1911, he was married to the former Maude E. Payne. He was a member of the United Church and attended services at Zion Memorial in Carleton Place and Boyd's United. Surviving besides his widow, are a son, Robert J. Miller of R.R, 2, Almonte; two daughters, E. Joan (Mrs. W. A. Van Sickle) and Irene E. (Mrs. J. F. Leeson), both of Toronto, and a brother, Albert G. Miller of Pakenham. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and John Miller. The funeral was held from the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Ave., Carleton Place, on Friday, February 22, at 2 p.m., with interment at Clayton United Cemetery. Mr. R. S. Bowker conducted the funeral services. Pallbearers were four nephews, Bert Miller, Jack Miller, Charles Miller and Russell Miller, Gordon Donaldson and Earl Sweeney. Honorary pallbearers were William Bellamy, Wilfred Purdy, Eldon Ireton and Edward Halpenny.

    James married Maude Emily Payne on 30 Aug 1911 in Clayton Village, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Mrs Wm Miller Dies In 95th Year?/b?
    One of the oldest and best loved resident of the Union Hall and Clayton district passed peacefully to rest on Sept, 25th at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs Eldin Currie in the person of Mrs Wm Miller, Sr. The deceased whose maiden name as Agnes S. Baird was born in Dalhousie township and was in her ninety-fifth year. She lived there until in 1879. After the death of her husband in 1890 she lived with her son Wm J. Miller in Lanark township. The family consisted of four sons all of whom are still living with the exception of John B. who died in 1942. The deceased familiarly known as "Grandma Miller" led a very active life and was always ready to respond to any call in time of trouble. She was a faithful member of the United Church, Clayton and in her active years took her part in all church activities. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, Wm J., Albert G., and James L. There are also 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The funeral which took place on Sunday from the Scott Funeral Home to Clayton United Church was one of the largest ever held in this community. The hymns sung were two of her favourites, "Rock of Ages" and "The Lord's My Shepherd." Mr Harold Stevens sang a solo, "There Are No Disappointments in Heaven." There were many beautiful floral tributes from friends and neighbours. The pall bearers were six grandsons: Robert Miller, Charles Miller, Bert Miller, Russell, Frank Lowe and Allan Gardiner. Friends were there from Toronto, Trenton, Kingston, Williamburg, Ottawa, Shawville, Lanark, Perth and Hopetown.

    The 1891 census records that John was a farmer in the Dalhousie - Sherbrook North area of Lanark. John died on 9th Apr 1901 and is buried in Hopetown cemetery.


    The Lanark Era [Ontario]

    In Lanark Twp. Monday, Jan. 15th, Marion Hood, relict of the late John Baird, aged 79 years. Born in Dalhousie, at Hood's, the family moved to Western Ontario, where her brothers, William, Andrew and James still live; David, at Deluth; Mrs. Arch. Penman, and Mrs. Wm Rodger, of Dalhousie are sisters. Mr. John Baird died six or seven years ago. Their family living: James, Dalhousie; Mrs. Arch Creighton, near Perth, Mrs. Wm. Miller, Lanark; and Mrs. Hugh Knowles, Hopetown. Buried in Hopetown Cemetery.
