Cherished husband of Pearl Burbank Evans. Dear father by first marriage of David (Ellie) Evans (Children Brianne, Lisa and Brett) of Carleton Place; Nancy (Hugh) Bennett (daughter Kaitland) of Smiths Falls and Laurie (Greg) Banks (Children Adam, Christopher and Annie) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Stepfather of Bruce (Lynn) Pearson of Kanata; Nancy (Elvin) Reimer (Children Benjamin, Jennifer, Jesse, Miranda and Zachary) of La Ronge Sask. and Cynthia (Michael) Peroff (children Alana, Andrew and Ashley Melissa) of North York. Also survived by his only sister Ethel (Grenville) Moffatt of Oxford Mills and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends. Friends may call at the Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held in St John the Evangelist Anglican Church Smiths Falls on Monday, October 27th at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

    ?/b?A charming wedding was solemnlzed on Friday afternoon In the chapel of St. John the Evangelist Church, Smiths Falls, when Lois Evelyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Pegg of Lombardy, became the bride of Melvln Weir, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Evans of Kemptville. Rev. G. H. Sadler performed the ceremony.
    For her wedding, the bride wore a steet-iength gown of white nylon organdy, and carried a corsage bouquet of red roses and calla llllies. Miss Thelma Wood of Smiths Falls attended the bridegroom's brother-in-law, Grenville Moffitt, was best man.
    Following the ceremony, the couple left for a honeymoon In Western Ontario. On their return they plan to reslde In Smiths Falls.

    WWI veteran Roy Reston Evans was born July 9, 1897 at Clayton. He was the son of Daniel Richard Evans and Eliza Jane Giles. He enlisted June 10, 1918 in Ottawa. The family's residence at that time was Oxford Mills. He was with the Second Depot Battalion E.O.R. Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in England. He was discharged July 3, 1919. In 1921 he married Sarah Ellen Weir and they lived in the Oxford Mills area. He died in 1980 and is buried in Oxford Mills Union Cemetery.

    James Giles
    On the evening of May 22nd, Mr. James Giles of Cedar Hill peacefully passed away in his eighty third year, after an illness of about three months. He was always blessed with exceptional health, and was very energetic until February. The late Mr. Giles was a son of the late Thomas Giles of the third concession of Ramsay and is the last of a family of thirteen. When but a lad of nine years of age his father died, and his first thought was to earn and help his widowed mother. In 1866 he married Mary Ann Smith of Pakenham who predeceased him two years and five months ago. To them were born six children Mrs. Richard Evans (Eliza Jane), of Burritt's Rapids. Mrs. James Jackson, (Margaret) of Edmonton, Miss Mary Agnes and Wm. John of Clayton, James Edward of Cedar Hill, and Thomas Henry on the homestead, and seventeen grandchildren. The late Mr. Giles was a very prosperous, hardworking man, he bore his sickness patiently, without a murmur. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from his late residence to St. Mark's church and cemetery, and was largely attended. Many coming from Ottawa, Almonte, Clayton and the surrounding district to pay their last tribute to one who was so widely known Rev. G. A. Brunet, Parish Priest, officiated at the house, church and grave, There was a beautiful wreath from the family, spray from Mr and Mrs. John Fulton J r . The pallbearers were Mr. Edward McMunn, Mr. Richard Evans, (son-in-Iaw), Mr. Robert J. Giles, Mr, Max Smith, Mr. W. Reid and Mr. Fred Forsythe.
