    Obituary
Posted 08 Feb 2016 by akaent
Douglas Charles Stinson, aged 79, was called home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 12, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth (Williams), brother-in-law Dick Goss and sons Jim (Susan) and Gerry (Charlene) and daughter June Clark (Bob). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Lyndon, Kyle, Madison, Brittany, Colby, Jami, David and great grandson, Aidan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was born on the family farm near Richmound, Saskatchewan, the youngest child of David and Edna Stinson. His older siblings Kay and Lloyd predeceased him. Doug grew up near Okotoks where he would ride his horse, Trixie, to school. He was the only child in grade one in the one room school house. Doug attended high school at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills Alberta. Following high school, Doug settled in Calgary, working for Hall's hardware then Chesneys hardware. It was at this time Doug married the love of his life, Ruth, and began a family. He followed his entrepreneurial spirit and purchased his father-in-law's family farm near Vulcan Alberta. He spent the next 16 years farming. After retiring from farming, his entrepreneurial spirit again coaxed him into several business ventures which took him and Ruth from Calgary to Oklahoma, the west coast and finally to Chilliwack. Doug was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease over 10 years ago. He accepted the diagnosis with pragmatism and grace. Doug and Ruth enjoyed several more years of retirement until his passing from the complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Doug was a life-long Christian, accepting Jesus Christ at an early age. First and foremost, he was a follower of Jesus Christ. Although the effects of Alzheimer's robbed him of his ability to recognize his loved ones, his faith was so deep that he said he knew he was going to heaven.

Doug modeled the love of Jesus Christ by unconditionally loving his family. He always thought of others before himself and lived a life of Christian Service. He is deeply missed by those left behind but we rejoice in the knowledge we will someday join him in paradise.

An opportunity to honor the memory of Doug's life will be held at Chilliwack Alliance Church 8700 Young Road Chilliwack, British Columbia (604) 792-0051 on Thursday January 19th at 1:30 pm. If you wish to give in memory of Doug, donations can be made to Hungry for Life
