    Thomas Barclay?/b?
    Thomas Barclay, mill superintendent at the old Rosamond Woollen Company in the 1950s, died at his Kingston home Oct 28, 1989 following an 11-week illness. He was 90. Born Nov 14, 1898 in Broxburn, Scotland, he was the son of the late Archibald Barclay and his wife, the late Janet Black. Following the First World War, in which he served in the 32nd Division of the Highland Light Infantry, Mr Barclay received his education at the Textile College in Scotland. Shortly after settling in Almonte in 1925, he married the late Roberta Watchorn on June 22, 1929. He was first employed as a foreman in the Carding and Picking Department at the Rosamond Department at the Rosamond Mill. He was promoted to assistant mill superintendent in the late 1930s and eventually to superintendent around 1952. After Rosamond's was sold Mr Barclay moved to Lindsay, Ont. where he ran a hardware store for five years. He then went on to Bowmanville in 1959 to work at the town's General Hospital as the stores manager before retiring in 1968 at age 70. Since the death of his wife in 1971, he has lived with his son and daughter-in-law in Kingston. Locally, he was a member of the Almonte United Church, a member of the Granite Chapter #61 Royal Archmasons and a past master, district chaplain, 60-year member and life member of the AF & AM Mississippi Lodge No 147. Mr Barclay is survived by his son Robert of Kingston, his brother James of Broxburn and his sisters Elizabeth Craford Brunt of Plattenburg Bay, South Africa and Peggie McIntyre of Bonnyrigg, Scotland. He also survived by his grandson Thomas of Kingston. The funeral took place in the chapel of the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, Almonte, at 2 p.m. Oct 31 with Rev E.S. Colwell officiating. Interment was at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eldon Craig, Thomas Barclay, Delmer Miller, Hugh Duncan, Russell Turner and Ollie Barr.

    Thomas married Roberta Irene Watchhorn in 1929. Roberta (daughter of Robert Watchhorn and Elizabeth Emeline Millar) was born on 6 May 1903 in White Lake, McNab Township, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada; died on 15 Mar 1971 in Bellville, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
