Notes: He learned the printing trade from William Pittard in the office of the old Almonte Times. From there to the Kingston Whigg, to Hamilton, then Toronto where he worked at the Catholic Register and he learned the typesetting machine. He returned to this position in 1918 and continued until 1945 when his health began to fail. At one time he gave up his trade and for approx. seven years conducted a furniture and undertaking business in Smiths Falls.
