The death of Mr Melville Wilfred (Mel) Royce of 101 Princess Street, Almonte, occurred at the Almonte General Hospital on Sunday, June 3rd, 1979, following a prolonged illness. He was in his 80th year. Born at White Lake, on April 17, 1900, he was a son of the late Robert Royce and his wife, Bertha Mary Miller. He received his education at Pakenham. Mr Royce was employed as a trucker. He was a member of the United Church and the Loyal Orange Lodge of Canada. He was married at Blakeney on February 8, 1928, to the former Agnes Winnifred Arthur, who survives. together with a family of four sons and four daughters: Marjorie: (Mrs Henry Stavenow), Arnprior; Mrs Muriel Trick, Toronto; Mrs Kathleen Eccleshall, Osgoode; Robert of C.F.B., Petawawa; Elizabeth (Mrs Walter Buffam), Carleton Place; Delmer of Killaloe; Eldon and Lynn of Almonte. Predeceased infant daughter Margrete Ellen. Surviving him also are sisters Eva (Mrs J. Raycroft), Stella (Mrs W. Pierce), Lieta (Mrs R. Bowden), Rena (Mrs G. Patterson), Vera (Mrs A. Seaward) and brothers Lilburn, Harrison. Predeceased by brothers Delmer and Oliver. The funeral was held from the Gamble & Comba Funeral Home on June 5th, at 3.30 p.m., with burial at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev R.J. McCrea officiated at the services. Members of L.O.L. No 48 assembled at the funeral home on the evening of June 4th at 9 p.m. for a memorial service for their departed brother. Mr Royce was borne to his final resting place by his sons and sons-in-law, Robert, Delmer, Eldon and Lynn Royce, Henry Stavenow and Walter Buffam.
Melville married Agnes Winifred Arthur on 8 Feb 1928 in Blakeney, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Agnes (daughter of James Arthur and Ellen Paterson) was born on 6 Nov 1903 in Blakeney, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 12 Dec 1982 in Ottawa Municipality, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
