7. Thomas Edwards. Born in 1778 in Kilkenny Co, Ireland. Thomas died in Lanark Co, ON Abt 1850, he was 72. The information about this Thomas and his family, as well as descendant lineages from him, are probably fairly accurate, but his exact derivation from the earlier generations is considerably in doubt, although it is likely that he is derived in some way from this Edwards family that originated in Wales and moved to Ireland. Most correspondents indicate that this Thomas is the son of Robert as given here, but others suggest he is the son of Robert's brother Richard, and at least one suggests he is the son of Thomas and Anne Shirley rather than their grandson. This compiler puts Thomas here as most others have done, but it certainly should not be considered proven that this lineage is correct. According to reference 2, Thomas and his family lived in Ireland on an estate owned by Lord Clifton; the estate was managed by a person named Burchill who looked after the estate but lived in Gouran. Ship passenger lists indicate that Thomas and his family sailed from New Ross on the ship Maria (commanded by Captain Key) on May 4 and landed in Quebec on June 24, 1820.4 His son Richard may have come out earlier in 1818. Thomas and his wife settled 4 miles east of Franktown in Beckwith Township (Con 4, Lot 20 NE), Lanark Co, ON. Thomas died between 1848 and 1851. He appears on the census in 1842 & 1848. In 1851 Sarah is living with son Thomas Jr. and wife Jane. Thomas and Sarah's immediate neighbours in 1842 Beckwith Twp were Samuel Leach, John Lett, Thomas Saunders. There were many Salters in the area. Abt 1800 when Thomas was 22, he married Sarah Kinch, in Newton Barry, Carlow Co, Ireland. Born Abt 1780 in Kilkenny County, Ireland. Sarah died in Lanark County, ON aft 1851, she was 71. Buried in North Augusta, Grenville County, ON. They had the following children:
