    Doug died at Almonte Country Haven Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. He was the son of the late Alex Schoular and late Emily (Fraser) Schoular and husband of Pat (Phillips) Schoular (62 years). He will be missed by his children Kathy (Dave), Robb (Rita), Todd, Matt (Sandra) and his grandchildren Justin, Michael, Keegan, Jeremy, Courtney and Juliette; all of whom Doug taught them technical skills in home renovating and a variety of card games over the years. Although Doug's chosen career was an accountant, his first-time renovation project was building the family cottage at Norway Bay, Que. This past Christmas Doug had the privilege of meeting his first great- grandchild Cooper, son of Justin and Josee. He was predeceased by his brother Gerry (Rene) of Stratford, Ontario and he will be missed by his brother Jack (Darlene) of Ottawa, nieces Tracey, Kelly, of Ottawa, niece Cheryl and nephew Dennis, of Stratford, Ontario. Throughout his life Doug was involved in the Carleton Place Hockey Association, the United Church of Canada and the Carleton Place Hospital Board of Directors. A life well lived; Dougie was an inspiration to all of us. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Burial will be at Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.

    Alex Schoular
    At St Petersburg, Florida on Tuesday December 23, 1980, Alex Schoular of Ottawa and formerly of Almonte died at the age of 79. The husband of the late Emily Fraser is survived by his second wife, the former Helen Lyons. Father of Jerry of Stratford, Ontario, Douglas and Jack of Nepean, Mr Schoular is survived by his sisters Mrs Harry Cameron (Mary) of Arnprior, Misses Elizabeth and Della Schoular of Almonte, his brother James Schoular of St Catharines, his grandchildren Cheryl, Dennis, Kathy, Robb, Todd, Matt, Tracy and Kelly. He is predeceased by a brother William of Smiths Falls. A memorial service was held in St Peterburg, Florida followed by cremation on December 24, 1980. A memorial service is to be held in Almonte at a later date.

    Mrs Alex Schoular
    Funeral services for the late Mrs Alex Schoular, who passed away on Friday, October 1st, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, were held at the Hulse and Playfair West Chapel, 1098 Byron Avenue, on Monday, October 4, at 1 p.m. Rev Matheson of Westboro United Church conducted the service. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. Born in Arnprior, she was the former Emily Irene Fraser, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Fraser. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Jerry of Stratford, Doug, and Jack of Ottawa, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters and four brothers, Mrs Stewart Coxford (Barbara), Toronto; Mrs Russell White (Janet), Pembroke; Mrs Clark MacDonald (Robina) and Mrs Roy Needham (Marion) of Arnprior; Gordon , Detroit; Russell of Fargo, North Dakota; Stanley and Frank of Arnprior. Two sisters Mrs Harold Paget (Alice) and Mrs George Coxhill (May) and one brother William are deceased. Before moving to Ottawa the family lived in Almonte for 20 years. Many beautiful floral offerings testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. There were also donations to the Cancer Society. A memorial service was held in the chapel on Sunday at 7 p.m. by the Almonte Rebekah Lodge, who were also present at the graveside.

    The Late James Schoular
    About three weeks ago, Mr James Schoular was taken to the R.M. hospital suffering from typhoid fever, and despite the best medical and nursing care, succumbed to the ravages of that disease, his spirit passing to the Great Beyond early last Friday morning. The late Mr Schoular was in his fifty-sixth year and was born in Darling township in May 1863, and was a son of the late Robert Schoular, and his home there until going to Arnprior about twenty-two years ago. Two years ago he and his family came to Almonte, where they since lived. Twenty-eight years ago he was married to Margaret McKay, daughter of the late William McKay of Lanark, and to them seven children were born, one dying in infancy. Mourning the loss of a loving husband and father are his widow, three sons and three daughters, William overseas, Misses Mary, Lizzie, Della and Alex and James of Almonte. Two sisters are also living -- Mrs Jas Foster, Galbraith, and Mrs Thos Culbertson, Deloraine, Man. The funeral on Sunday afternoon was largely attended, and the services at the home and grave were conducted by Rev S.G. Brown, The pallbearers, all of whom were boyhood friends of the deceased, were Messrs James Schoular, James Rintoul, William Rintoul, Thomas King, Daniel Foy, of Darling, and James Schoular of Ramsay. Among the many floral offerings were a pillow from the family, sprays from Mrs Hederson ad Mrs Bothwell, and Atthewell Rebekah Lodge.

    Mrs James Schoular
    There passed to rest at her home on Farm Street, on Saturday last, a highly respected resident of the town in the person of Mrs James Schoular, after an illness of more than two years. Mrs Schoular was the former Miss Margaret McKay and was born in Lanark Township in 1862, a daughter of the late William McKay and his wife Ann Pretty, descendants of pioneers of that district. In June 1890, she married James Schoular and they resided in Arnprior for a time, coming to Almonte, 26 years ago. Mr Schoular died two years later. Surviving are three daughters and three sons, Mrs Harry Cameron of Arnprior; Miss Elizabeth Schoular of the teaching staff of the Almonte Public School; Miss Della Schoular of Almonte; William Schoular, C.P.R., Smiths Falls; James Schoular, of St Hyacinthe, Que; Alex Schoular of Almonte, and three sisters and four brothers, Mrs Duncan Hamilton of Carleton Place; Mrs William Dunlop, Union Hall; Mrs Peter McDougall of Blakeney; Alex McKay, Middleville; Daniel and George McKay, Arnprior, and Nelson McKay, Almonte. Mrs Schoular was a valued member of Bethany United Church and also a member of the Women's Missionary Society. The funeral was held on Monday, Sept 7, from her late residence and was largely attended by relatives and friends. Rev W.J. Scott, pastor of Bethany United Church officiated. The pallbearers were Messrs W.W. Watchorn, Martin Maxwell, E.H. Farnham, John Miller, John McDonald and Howard Giles. Among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the weaving department of the Rosamond Woolen Co Limited; Tweed department of Penman's Limited, St Hyacinthe, Que; Mississippi Lodge No 147 A.F. & A.M., and the teaching staff of Almonte Public School. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
