Hedley Stewart and much loved mom of Bruce (Linda) of Carleton Place, Bob (Kathy) of Almonte, Brian of Ottawa and Mrs. Bonnie McEwen (Greg) of Almonte. Predeceased by 1 daughter; Betty and a granddaughter; Christine. Dear sister of Mrs. Janetta McKenzie, Mrs. Beatrice Kilsby, Ivan & Albert Hamilton. Predeceased by 2 brothers; Frank & Alex. Also survived by 6 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home & Chapel 127 Church Street, Almonte on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of Service in the Chapel at 12 noon. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.     Funeral services for William George Stewart who passed away Christmas morning, following a lengthy illness, were held from his home on Monday, Dec 28th, 1953. Born in 1890 at Calumet Island, Que., he was a son of the late John Stewart and Bella McLellan. Surviving are his wife, the former Mayme Spinks; two sons, Peter and Hedley of Almonte; seven sisters, Mrs Robert Howard of Waltham, Que.; Mrs Harry Baird of Carleton Place, Mrs Jos Cole, Nutley, New Jersey; Mrs Frank Gilbeault, Almonte; Mrs Nelson Cole, Waltham, Que.; Mrs Garfield Elliott, Herschel, Sask., and Mrs Amos Robinson, Almonte. Three brothers, Robert, of Herschel, Sask.; Hugh of Calumet Island, and Archie of Fort William. One sister, Mrs Thos Eno, and one brother, Thomas, predeceased him. There are three grandchildren. The service was conducted by the Rev J.R. Anderson of the United Church and burial was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs. John Knight, John McGill, Frank Gilbeault, Harry Hamilton, Jas Spinks and Geo Tasker. Many floral offerings were received.

    Following a lengthy illness the death occurred Tuesday, May 4th, 1965 at the Drynan Nursing Home of Mary Elizabeth (Maymie) Stewart, widow of the late Wm. George Stewart who died in 1953. Mrs Stewart was born n Darling Township in 1891, a daughter of the late Annie Barrie and Wm Spinks. She is survived by two sons, Peter Glenson and Wm. Hedley of Almonte; one brother, Jas Spinks, also of Almonte; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by one sister and two brothers. The funeral was held Friday, May 7th from the Comba Funeral Home. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Many floral offerings were received. Pallbearers were Robt France, Stan Sonnenburg, Jas Majaury, Don Campbell Clifford Robertson and Ted Sonnenburg.

    Huntley is an historic township originally part of Carleton County in eastern Ontario, Canada.

    Huntley was located in the western part of the county, bordered to the northwest by Fitzroy Township, to the northeast by March Township, to the southwest by Ramsay Township and to the southeast by Goulbourn Township. It includes the communities of Carp, Corkery, Huntley, Manion Corners, and Westwood.

    The township was established in 1841. The first settlers in the area were immigrants from Ireland in the early 19th century. Huntley took its name from Huntly Castle, associated with Charlotte Lennox, Duchess of Richmond, whose husband Charles served as Governor General of British North America from 1818 to 1819.

    In 1974, it was amalgamated with Torbolton and Fitzroy to form West Carleton. In 2001, West Carleton became part of the new city of Ottawa.
