    On Monday April 7th, at his home in Ramsay, Mr. Joseph Chapman passed away, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Ramsay, near Appleton, fifty-six years ago a son of John Chapman who came over from Scotland. About twenty-five years ago he was married to Christina Margaret Drummond, daughter of the late Daniel Drummond, and a sister of David Drummond of Appleton. Of six children born to them, two are dead. He is survived by his wife, John, Marion, Lillian and Helen, also one brother G.T. Chapman. After his marriage he moved to Bristol, and a few years ago he returned and lived on the 7th line, but later moved to Mr. Thomas Arthur's farm on the 9th line. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from his residence to the 8th line cemetery, Rev. Mr. Monds, of Carleton Places, assisted by Rev. Mr. Fraser of Appleton, and Rev. S.G. Brown conducted the services. The pallbearers were: W. Drummond, Stewart, Robert Dunlop, and J. Drynan. The sympathy and kindness of the friends and neighbours was amply shown by the numerous and beautiful floral offerings, and expressions of condolences with the bereaved family.

    These additional facts regarding the death of Mr Jos Chapman have been handed to the Gazette: There were six children, John Marion, Lillian, Sandy who died last June, Isobel, who died in infancy, and Helen. Of his father's family, Jos was the eldest. The other members were Mary (Mrs Colburne), Toronto; Jennie (Mrs Brydges), St Catharines; Maggie, deceased; Janet, (Mrs S.S. Gibson), deceased; G.T. in the old home on the eighth line of Ramsay; Annie (Mrs Bickell), Peterboro; John, deceased; Robert, of San Francisco, and Wm, of Steven's Point, Mich. The pallbearers at the funeral were Wm J. Drummond, Geo T. Drummond, Lawson Stewart, Alex Stewart, Robert Dunlop and Jas Drynan.

    There passed away at her home on the 9th line of Ramsay, on Friday morning, Dec 18th, a well known and highly respected resident of the township, Mrs Joseph Chapman. Born in Ramsay Township in 1871, deceased was the daughter of the late Daniel Drummond and his wife Margaret McCallum, pioneer settles of Ramsay. She was married to Mr. Joseph Chapman on May 23, 1895. He died in 1919. There remain to mourn her loss one son and three daughters: Jno M. Chapman on the homestead, 9th line Ramsay, and Miss Marion, Lillian and Helen of Ottawa. Two children Sandy and Isobel died in early childhood, Of her own immediate family Mrs Chapman is survived by two brothers and four sisters: David Drummond of Ramsay; George of Bristol, Que.; (Jessie) Mrs Robert Dunlop and Marion Drummond of Carleton Place; (Mary) Mrs Alex Stewart and (Agnes) Mrs Lawson Stewart of Arnprior. The many expressions of sympathy and beautiful flower bespoke the respect and esteem in which Mrs Chapman was held during her life. Among the many floral pieces were a beautiful basket from her neighbours; a wreath from the Carleton Place W.F.O. and W.F.W.O. clubs of which Mrs Chapman was an active and ever-interested member; a spray from the Treasury Office of the Dept of Labour and from the Purchasing Branch of the Dept. of Munitions and Supplies, Ottawa; choir of the First United Church, Ottawa. Executive of the Presbyterial of the W.M.S. Ottawa, and a basket from the staff and pupils of Percy Street School, Ottawa. The funeral was held on Sunday from the family home, 9th line of Ramsay. The service was conducted by the Rev. D.C. Munroe of Memorial Park Church, Carleton Place. The pallbearers were Messrs. John Cram, Robert Reid, Wm. Anderson, W.H. Hawkins, H.G. Lowry and Percy Drynan. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Last week we had to chronicle the demise of an old and respected resident, and since that time three others have fallen below the scythe of the grim monster, viz.: ..... and Mr John Chapman, Huntley........ Mr Chapman was afflicted with spinal trouble, and suffered greatly. He bore his sufferings with great meekness, and it was a relief to him when death robbed him of his suffering on Tuesday. To all the bereaved ones we tender our sincere sympathy.

    John married Ann McKinley.     ?b?Death in Ramsay?/b?
    Mrs Chapman, of the 8th line, Ramsay, who has been ailing for some months, passed away last night about 10 o'clock at her late home on the 8th line, aged 66 years. The deceased lady, whose maiden name was Ann McKinlay, was born in Paisley, Scotland, being the daughter of the late Robt McKinlay, and came to Canada with her parents when a child, settling in Ramsay. In 1859 she married the late John Chapman and they made their home at Appleton, where they continued to reside until after Mr Chapman death, 21 years since, after which they moved to the farm on the 8th line, where the family have since lived. Mrs Chapman was a lady much esteemed, and her demise is deeply regretted. Of the family of eleven children, eight survive ? Joseph in Bristol; Mrs A. Colburne, in Toronto; Mrs R. Brydges in Sault Ste Marie; Mrs S.S. Gibson in Rupert, Que.; Thomas and Annie at home; Robert in California and William in Wisconsin. One son and two daughters are deceased. Mrs Chapman was a Presbyterian and a member of Zion church here. The funeral take place tomorrow afternoon and will likely be largely attended. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow. ? Carleton Place Herald.

    Another old Ramsay pioneer has crossed the bourne from which there is no returning, his demise taking place on Monday morning at his home at Carleton Place. Mr Drummond was born in Perthshire, Scotland, and when he was in his infancy his parents joined the throng of emigrants who were at that time making their way Canadawards. The family settled in Ramsay township, and there the deceased spent 76 years of his life ? on his father's farm and the one adjoining ? until his retirement but four years ago, since which time he has been a resident of Carleton Place. In 1860 Mr Drummond married Miss Marion McCallum, and the union was blessed with a family of twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, all of whom survive but two; The sons are William J. and Geo T., in Bristol, Dr. S.J. in Casonovia, Mich., Rev D.R. pastor of St. Paul's church, Hamilton, and D.J., on the homestead. The daughters are Mrs Jos Chapman, Bristol, Mrs Robert Dunlop, Carleton Place; Marion C., in Toronto; Mrs L. Stewart, Pakenham, and Mary I. at home. The deceased are Malcolm, who died in childhood, and Alexander P. who was killed in a railway accident at Arnprior four years ago. In politics Mr Drummond was a Liberal, firm in his convictions, yet accorded a like privilege to others. In religion he was a Presbyterian, and for many years was an elder of St Andrew's church here. For over twenty years he was a trustee in his school section, and took a deep interest in educational affairs. He was very fond of reading and his memory was a veritable storehouse of useful information. During the last days the members of the family assembled as far a possible, those present at the last being William from Bristol, Rev D.R. from Hamilton, Marion from Toronto, Mrs Stewart, Mrs Dunlop and Mary. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to the 8th line Ramsay cemetery and was very largely attended. The bereaved wife and other members of the family have the deep sympathy of their many friends in their hour of sadness.

    The death occurred last week at Arnprior of Mrs Daniel Drummond of John St., Carleton Place, after an illness of a few weeks following a paralytic stroke with which she was seized while visiting at that town. Deceased, whose maiden name was Marion McCallum, was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Alex McCallum, and was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 15, 1838. She was married to Daniel Drummond on July 6, 1859, her husband passing away some years ago. She is survived by five sons and five daughters, viz., William J. and George T., of Bristol, Que; Dr S.J., of Cassandra, Mich; Rev S.R., of Hamilton; David J., of Carleton Place; Mrs Robert Dunlop and Miss Marion C., of Carleton Place; Mrs Jos Chapman, of Ramsay; Mrs P. Lawson Stewart, of Fitzroy, and Mrs Alex W. Stewart, of McNab. Two sons are deceased: Alex P. and Malcolm G. The late Mrs Drummond was active in the work of St Andrew's church, Carleton Place, of which she was a consistent and respected member, her particular activities being along temperance and missionary lines. She was beloved by all and the announcement of her death will bring sorrow to many homes. The funeral took place from her home on John St., to the Eighth Line cemetery.
