    ?b?Final Tribute Paid Mrs D.J. Thompson?/b?
Tribute to the memory of Mrs D.J. Thompson was paid by a large circle of friends and relatives at her funeral on Friday, Aug 24th. Mrs Thompson passed away in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Aug 21 and the funeral was held from the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs T. Earl Pretty to Rosetta United Church. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The late Mrs Thompson, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Aitken, a daughter of the late William Aitken and Alice Knapton, was born May 20, 1879, on the farm now owned by Mr John C. Rodger. In 1869 she married Mr D.J. Thompson and they farmed at Lloyd for many years. Mr Thompson was postmaster at Lloyd until that post office was discontinued when the rural mail service was established. Mr Thompson died in 1952. A capable homemaker and devoted mother to a large family, Mrs Thompson, while of a quiet unassuming nature, never neglected an opportunity to be of service in the community. She was a member of Rosetta United Church and also the Women's Missionary Society of that church and a member of the local Women's Institute. Following her husband's death she lived at Middleville with her daughter, Mrs Pretty and was a faithful attendant at St Paul's United Church and a worker of both the W.M.S. and W.A. organization. She is survived by nine sons and four daughters, namely: Harvey of Ottawa; Rev Leonard A. Thompson of Calgary, Alta; Russell and Bert of Lanark Township; Edwin, Alan, Mac, John and Bill of Ramsay Township; (Alice) Mrs John Cross of Edmonton, Alta; (who came east to nurse her mother during her hospital illness); (Irene) Mrs Earl Pretty of Middleville; (Isobel), Mrs Stewart Rodger of Rosetta; (Laura) Mrs John Rintoul of Galbraith; a brother, John K. Aitken of South Porcupine, all of whom were present at the funeral; two sisters, Mrs Isobel Ranny and Miss Ella Aitken of California, U.S.A.; fifty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted by Rev Robert Brawn of Clayton-Middleville United church circuit.
The pallbearers were four grandsons, Raymond and Alan Pretty, Rodger and Glenn Thompson, two sons-in-law, W. Stewart Rodger and John G. Rintoul.
Many beautiful floral tributes carried by Ellis Mather, Robert Reid, Raymond Blackburn, Glen Ireton, Lionel Pretty, Donald Gibson and Raymond McIntosh, messages of sympathy and In Memoriam donations to the Bible Society testified to the high esteem in which she was held in the community.

Mary married Daniel John "D. J." Thompson in 1899. Daniel (son of John Daniel Thompson and Mary Jane Bain) was born on 18 Jul 1873 in Lanark Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 26 Feb 1952 in Lanark Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 28 Feb 1952 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
