    ?b?Final Tribute Is Paid?/b?
Popular And Respected Farmer of Lanark Twp. Daniel John "D.J." Thompson passed away at his Lanark Township home on Tuesday, Feb 26, after a few days' illness. Born in Lanark Township in 1873, he was a son of the late John Thompson and his wife, Mary Jane Bain. In 1899 he married Mary Ann Aitken at Rosetta and farmed in the Lloyd district of Lanark Township all the rest of his days. On April 19, 1949, Mr and Mrs Thompson were the centre of a happy family gathering when they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding. Always interested and active in local affairs, Mr Thompson was sec'y-treas of S.S. No 12, Lanark, for 25 years prior to the formation of the School Area. He was a director of the L.T.A.S., for over 25 years and was correspondent for The Almonte Gazette for the Lloyd district since 1905. The late Mr Thompson had a good news sense and often went out of his way to obtain news items for the Gazette that were outside his own community. The 44-hour week had no place in Mr Thompson's life and his own industry and integrity should be an inspiration to all. Of his immediate family he is survived by two sisters, Miss Martha J. Thompson of Lanark Township; Edith, Mrs David Munro of Ramsay; three brothers, Thomas and James of Lanark Township, Welland of Birch Hill, Sask. One sister, Laura, Mrs Jas Affleck of Naseby, Sask., and one brother, Hilton, predeceased him. Also left to mourn are his wife and four daughters and eight sons; Alice, Mrs J.G. Cross of Edmonton; Irene, Mrs Earl Pretty; Isobel, Mrs Stewart Rodger; Laura, Mrs John G. Rintoul, all of Lanark Township; Harvey of Ottawa; Rev Leonard Thompson of MacLeod, Alta; Edwin, Allan, Malcolm, John and William, all of Ramsay; Bert on the homestead and 41 grandchildren. The funeral was held on Feb 28 from his late home to Rosetta United Church, of which he was a member. Rev Wm D. Reid officiated at the service which was very largely attended. The pallbearers were: Eldon Ireton, Milton Giles, Neil McIntosh, Graydon Arnott, Jos Tennant and Ronald Thompson. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

    ?b?Final Tribute Paid Mrs D.J. Thompson?/b?
Tribute to the memory of Mrs D.J. Thompson was paid by a large circle of friends and relatives at her funeral on Friday, Aug 24th. Mrs Thompson passed away in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Aug 21 and the funeral was held from the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs T. Earl Pretty to Rosetta United Church. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The late Mrs Thompson, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Aitken, a daughter of the late William Aitken and Alice Knapton, was born May 20, 1879, on the farm now owned by Mr John C. Rodger. In 1869 she married Mr D.J. Thompson and they farmed at Lloyd for many years. Mr Thompson was postmaster at Lloyd until that post office was discontinued when the rural mail service was established. Mr Thompson died in 1952. A capable homemaker and devoted mother to a large family, Mrs Thompson, while of a quiet unassuming nature, never neglected an opportunity to be of service in the community. She was a member of Rosetta United Church and also the Women's Missionary Society of that church and a member of the local Women's Institute. Following her husband's death she lived at Middleville with her daughter, Mrs Pretty and was a faithful attendant at St Paul's United Church and a worker of both the W.M.S. and W.A. organization. She is survived by nine sons and four daughters, namely: Harvey of Ottawa; Rev Leonard A.
