Geoffrey Greenfield Macdonell was born in Almonte, Ontario, on July 19, 1882 to Donald Greenfield Macdonell and his second wife, Edith Fanny Rose.

About 1903 he bought a farm near Chilliwack, British Columbia and was a cattle breeder and he was the president of the B.C. Guernsey Breeders Association. He was also the British Columbia director of the Canadian Guernsey Breeders Association.

On November 18, 1913, in Vancouver, he married Aileen Allen.

On June 15, 1953, in Chilliwack, Geoffrey married Mary Louise Lyle.

Geoffrey sold his farm in 1958.
