    John W. Beals, 91, Delphos, died Friday September 14, 1983, at the Ottawa County Hospital, Minneapolis. He was born June 8, 1892, in Ottawa County and lived in Bennington for many years where he was a farmer and rancher. John married Elizabeth "Bessie" Comfort in 1914 and were married for 56 years, until her passing in May of 1970.

    Mr. Beals taught school for five years, served two terms as an Ottawa County Commissioner and five years as the Ottawa County Appraiser.

    He moved to Delphos in 1971. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the IOOF Lodge.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie and a daughter, Dorothy Gray. Surviving are his wife Jessie, of the home; a son, Wayne, Bethany, Okla; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Trott, Lyons, and Ellen Binder, Ayrshire, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Julianne Zajic, Delphos; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Wilkins, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Nellie Mottin, Miltonvale; 21 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and several great -grandchildren.

    The funeral will be Monday September 17, at 2 p.m. at the Delphos Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
