    Mrs. Ephraim Scharfe, of Carp, passed away this morning after a long illness, at the home of her sister, Mrs. A.H. McIver, 59 Grosvenor Avenue. She had been ailing since becoming a victim to the influenza about three years ago, and came to Ottawa several weeks ago when physicians in Carp despaired of saving her.
    She was in her 43rd year, and was a native of Carp, where she was very well known and held in high esteem. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Hodgins.
    She is survived by her husband and one son, Pitman and four daughters, the Misses Mildred, Thelma, Kathleen and Estelle, all at home.
    The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, to Beechwood cemetery. Rev. M.E. Brownlee, of Manotick, formerly of Carp, will perform the services at the home.

    Nicholas Scharfe, one of the Capital's most constand churchgoers and a member of the Wesleynn Methodist church, passed away suddenly yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs C.B. Moses of 27 Warren avenue. He was in his 90th year.
    He was born in Hazeldean, a son of John Scharfe and Ann James. He founded a carriage and furniture building business in Carp and successfully pursued his trade there for many years. He was married before the turn of the century to Mary Ann Stanley who died in 1910. In 1913, he married Mary Ann Casselman of Williamsburg, who predeceased him in 1939.
    Surviving are one son, Hartley; four daugthers, Mrs W.A. Bond, Mrs C.B. Moses, Miss Elizabeth Scharfe and Mrs J.W. Smith, all of Ottawa; three brothers, John James of Vancouver; and Allen and Fred, Moose Jaw.
    Rev. S.W. Blanchard will conduct the funeral service in the chapel of Hulse and Playfair, Saturday afternoon. Interment will in be Huntley cemetery.

    After hovering between life and death for the last couple of weeks, Mrs Nicholas Scharf passed away on Tuesday morning. She had been a patient sufferer for about a year past with an ailment which finally conquered all that medical skill and tender nursing could devise, and just with the awakening life of a new day, she went to sleep to awake in a much brighter and happier world where pain is unknown.
    Deceased, whose maiden name was Mary Ann Stanley, was born in Huntley and lived her entire life in this vicinity. She was 57 years of age and is survived by her husband and a grown up family, as follows: Ephraim, Oswald, Hartley, Mrs William (Alma) Bond, Mrs Chester (Viotetta) Moses, Misses Lizzie and Bertha. The late Mrs Scharf, through her kindness and hospitality, had won the respect of a large circle of friends in the community who sympathize with the bereaved family in the loss they have sustained.
    The funeral will leave her late residence at 10:30 this (Thursday) morning for the Methodist church, 3rd line Huntley, where service will conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Humphery, and interment made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Mrs. Thomas Hodgins?/b? passed peacefully away about 1 o'clock on Tueesday afternoon, About two weeks ago she had a stroke of paralysis which caused unconsciousness most of the time since. All that medical skill and careful nursing could do was to no avail. On Saturday, however, she improved wonderfully and had regained consciousness, but after a second stroke on Monday she became weaker, lapsing into unconsciousness and slept away, apparently without pain or ache, until until her spirit took its flight.
    Deceased's maiden name was Sophia A. Hodgins, she was born at Hazeldean and was in her 64th. year. The family retired from farming and came to Carp to reside. Mr Hodgins predeceased her by about 15 years. The children who survive are Mr. Herbert Hodgins, Mrs. E. Scharf and Mrs. A. H. McIver, all of this place. Two sisters and one brother also survive namely, Mrs. Adam Hodgins, of this place, Mrs. J. J. Young and Mr. J. J. Hodgins of Ottawa. The late W. A. Hodgins, member of parliment for Carleton county, was also a brother.
    The funeral will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. to the Christ Church and cemetery, third line of Huntley.

    ?b?Mrs. Sarah Jane Kidd?/b?, widow of the late John Hodgins of Hazeldean, mother of Ms. Young of Kent street, aunt of Mr. Geo. Kidd, and cousin of Mr. T. Hodgins, died suddenly at her daughter's residence on Saturday evening. The deceased, who sustained three strokes of paralysis some eighteen months ago, complained while visiting her daughter of pain in her head, and died before Dr. Potter, her medical attendant, could be summoned.
    Her remains were removed to the residence of her son, Mr. J. J. Hodgins, of Hazeldean, whence the funeral took place this afternoon. Deceased was highly esteemed throughout the country, and leaves two sons and three daughters to mourn her loss.
