Press Notices: "Former County Guard John W. Dale, Passes" "A resident of Westboro for the past 32 years and a guard at the Carleton jail for 21 years until his retirement last fall, John Wilber Dale, 25 Brandon street, died at a local hospital Thursday. Born and educated in Shawville, Que., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Dale . He was married in Ottawa in 1914 to the former Mary Prendergast who survives. He was a member of the Westboro United Church. Surviving besides his wife, are four sons, Armand, William, Allen and Donald, all of Westboro; one daughter, Frances, at home; one brother Fred, and one sister, Mrs. Arthur Dale, (Louella Margaret Lillian) both of Ottawa. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the parlours of the Tubman Funeral Home , 403 Richmond Road. The service will be conducted by the Rev. A.P. Menzies. Interment will be in Merivale cemetery."

"Mr. John Alexander Dale, who had been ill since last Fall, first with pleurisy, and latterly with lung infection, was released from his sufferings on Thursday evening, February 25th.
The deceased was widely known throughout the county, from a long association with the stock buying business, few dealers having come to these parts, without enlisting the services of John Dale whose long experience in the work and thorough knowledge of the country and its people made him an invaluable man. He is said to have been the first party to make a shipment of cattle from this section.
His remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery on Saturday afternoon, following service in the Methodist church, at which the pastor, Rev. W.S. Lennen officiated. There was a large attendance, many coming from a distance to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed.
The late Mr. Dale is survived by a sorrowing widow, three sons and one daughter, namely: John Wilbur, Fred, Armen and Louella (Mrs. Arthur Dale); also one brother, Robert of this village, and one sister, Mrs. R. Brownlee of Braeside. He was the son of the late John Dale, first mayor of Shawville (& Jane Strutt). He was 56 years of age."

" The death of Mr. John Dale of this village, on Sunday morning last, removes another of the fast disappearing landmarks of this section. Mr. Dale, who was in his 71st year, had been in an enfeebled state of health for some years past, and lately was unable to leave his home. In early life, Mr. Dale took an active part in Municipal matters, and for several terms represented Clarendon at the County Council board. After the incorporation of Shawville, Mr. Dale had the honour of being its first Mayor. The deceased gentleman was a member of the English Church and a strong Conservative in politics. He was also a member of the Orange Order, under whose auspices his funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon."

Deceased was a sister of our townsman, Mr. John H. Armstrong, Mrs. E. Hodgins (Margery), Mrs. C.R. Morrison (Sarah Jane), Mrs. Hanna of Yarm (Mary) and Mr. F. Armstrong of the 5th Range, and mother of Messrs. John A. aand Robert Dale of this village, who with her aged husband are left to mourn her loss. The funeral took place on Monday morning to St. Paul's Church cemetery."
