Helen Winifred Kidd June 19, 1921 - July 26, 2016 Helen Brown was born in Calgary to Mel and Ethel Brown of Cochrane and grew up on a family farm in the Glendale area north east of Cochrane. She rode horses to school and participated in farm operations, often driving a team of horses on a rake during haying. Helen enlisted in the RCAF in 1943 and was stationed in Ottawa and London. She was wounded by a V2 rocket in London during the blitz and honourably discharged after the war. After returning home she met and married Fred Kidd. During 50 years of marriage she supported Fred's career at Shell Oil which took them through many moves to different cities and countries before retirement to a farm near Cochrane.
A wonderful mother and homemaker, Helen was also devoted to providing care to elderly friends and volunteering with many organizations including the Girl Guides, Meals on Wheels, the Glenbow Museum, and Bethany Care. Helen resided on a farm near her original home until after Fred's death, when she moved into Cochrane. Time was taken enjoying her grandchildren, watching baseball and attending Stampeder games with her friend Tom Wilson. Helen's last year was spent happily at Mount Royal Long Term Care, where she enjoyed a very warm and caring environment. Helen Kidd died with family at her bedside.
