    ?b?Mr James Stewart?/b?
Last Friday Mr James Stewart of Ramsay was bought to the R.M. hospital suffering from pneumonia, with little hope for recovery, and on Wednesday evening the unequal contest ended. A very sad feature of the sad occurrence is that his wife died only bout two months ago, and now the four little children, who were then left motherless, are now left fatherless as well. The late Mrs Stewart was a son of the late George Stewart and was in his 45th year. He was married to a daughter of Mr and Mrs Daniel Munro of Clayton, who died the end of February last. There are four children left, the youngest about a year-and-a-half old, and the eldest about six years. The funeral will take place on Friday at 2.30 o'clock to the eighth line cemetery.

    ?b?Mr George Stewart?/b?
Nearly six years ago Mr Geo Stewart, of the seventh line, Ramsay, suffered from a slight shock of paralysis but from this he recovered to some extent, though he never regained his former activity and vigour. About a year later he suffered from a recurrence of the trouble, but much more severely, and for about five years he had been confined to bed, unable to speak intelligibly, and with little power to help himself in any way. But through all these years he patiently bore his suffering until Sunday last when death resulted from the effects of the trouble. The deceased was born and spent his whole life on the farm upon which he died, his father, the late James Stewart (who in his lifetime was a respected elder of St Andrew's church), having also lived and died upon the same farm. Mr Stewart wife predeceased him several years. Of the family there are six daughters ? Mrs Jas Laronde, Mrs D Laronde, Mrs Rivett and Miss Maggie, at Arnprior, and Misses Minnie and Aggie at home ? and one son, James. at home. Of the brothers and sisters of the deceased, Robert lives in Ramsay, John in Ross township, in Renfrew county, Mary (Mrs Jas Stewart), is in Manitoba, and Agnes, also married, is in western Ontario. Another sister, Isabella, (Mrs Buchanan Paterson), is dead. The funeral took place on Tuesday, and notwithstanding that farmers were so busy the funeral was a very large one. The remains were interred in the Presbyterian cemetery at Clayton. The deceased was member of the Clayton Presbyterian church and was much respected for many excellent qualities of both head and heart.

    ?b?The Late Robt Stewart (George -- a Typo ?)
?/b?Through an unfortunate misunderstanding of information given the Gazette last week, the obituary notice of the late George Stewart was inaccurate in some particulars. The late Mr Stewart was born on the farm on the seventh line of Ramsay on which his father, the late Jas Stewart, resided, and on which Mr Robt Stewart, now lives. He afterward moved onto the farm on the sixth line on which his grandfather, Mr Brown, had lived, and here he resided until his death. About six years ago he suffered from a slight stroke of paralysis, and about a year later from another one, which affected his speech to some extent, making it difficult for him to speak intelligibly, but his was able to be around and take a share in the work on the farm, until a short time before his decease, when he suffered from a recurrence of the disease which resulted in his health. (Mr Stewart wife predeceased him several years. Of the family there are six living daughters ? Mrs Jas Laronde, Mrs D. Laronde, Mrs Rivett and Miss Annie, at Arnprior, and Misses Minnie and Aggie, at home ? one son, James, at home. Of the brothers and sisters of the deceased, James the oldest, lives in Winnipeg; Robert, on the homestead in Ramsay; John, in Litchfield, Que; Mary (Mrs Jas Stewart), near Gladstone, Manitoba and Agnes (Mrs Creighton), at Wingham. Another sister, Isabella, (Mrs Buchanan Paterson), is dead.

Death Summons Andrew Cochran In His 92nd Year
Well-known Ramsay Man, Was Identified With Many Agricultural Movements
Ramsay Township lost one of its oldest and best known citizens, Saturday morning, in the death of Mr Andrew Cochran in his 92nd year. Mr Cochran passed away peacefully at the family residence on the 7th Line after being confined to his bed for some time as a result of heart trouble. Through his connection with public spirited activities calculated to stimulate the progress of agriculture, Mr Cochran was widely known in Lanark County and other parts of Eastern Ontario
    Interested In Fair
He was associated with the North Lanark Agricultural Society since youth, his father before him, having taken an active interest in Almonte Fair. In his time he served as president of the organization an as a director for a number of terms. At the time of his death he was by long odds the oldest member of the association and one of its honourary directors He was for a time a provincial judge under the Ontario Fairs Association in the cattle and sheep department with gave him a wide acquaintance with prominent livestock men in this part of the province. It is safe to say that during the long period of his adult life there were few agricultural activities of worthwhile nature that the late Mr Cochran was not identified with. For 36 years he was a director of the Lanark County Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company, attending the meetings at Perth where he made a wide circle of friends. He served several terms as a councillor for his native Township of Ramsay, and was member of the session of the Almonte Presbyterian Church for a long period. In politics he was a staunch Liberal. Deceased was a son of the late Andrew Cochran and Isobelle Erskine, who immigrated from Glasgow, Scotland, and located at the present homestead in 1836. He was married 57 years ago to Catherine Wilson, who predeceased him five years. Seven years ago Mr and Mrs Cochran celebrated their golden wedding, receiving the felicitations of a wide circle of relatives and friends. Surviving are four sons and one daughter, Alexander Cochran of Ramsay; Wilson of Windsor, Ont.; Kenneth of Portland, Ore.; Milton on the homestead and Mrs William A. Jamieson (Isabel) of Almonte. There are also two brothers, Peter Cochran of Ramsay, and James of Moose Jaw; and three sisters, Mrs Robert Naismith, (Isabel), Saries, North Dakota; Mrs Thos Philip (Jennie), Forest Grove, Ore., and Mrs David Snedden (Ellen) of Almonte. Mr Cochran was one of a family of eleven which was remarkable for longevity. Of the six who have passed away, one sister, Mrs Joseph Yuill (Margaret) was 92; another sister, Mrs Wm Hall (Agnes) and a brother Robert were in their 80's. A brother Alexander, was killed while working on the farm at the age of 21 and a sister Lily died in girlhood at the age of 16. Of the surviving brothers and sisters, Mrs Naismith is the eldest being 94 years of age and still able to write a most readable letter; Mrs Philip is almost 90 and the other three are in the 80's.
    Large Funeral
On Sunday relatives and friends far and near called on the bereaved family and extended condolences. The funeral was exceptionally large, and was a fitting tribute to one whose life had spanned such a vast period of time, when measured by human standards. Rev A.J. Mrs A. Cochran Of Ramsay Passes, At Age of 79 Years
Deceased Took Active Part, In Social and Religious Work
Attended by a host of friends and relatives from this district and more distant points, the funeral of the late Mrs Andrew Cochran was held on Sunday afternoon from the family residence, Seventh concession of Ramsay, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mrs Cochran was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the North Lanark section. Her maiden name was Catherine Wilson and she was born in Lanark Township in 1856, a daughter of the late Catherine and Daniel Wilson. In 1883 she married Andrew Cochran, prominent Ramsay farmer, who survives her. At the time of her death early Saturday morning, Mrs Cochran had reached the advanced age of 79 years. Left to mourn Mrs Cochran, in addition to the husband, are four sons and one daughter, namely, Alex of Ramsay, Wilson of Sudbury, Milton of the homestead, Kenneth of Portland, Oregon, and Isobel, Mrs W.A. Jamieson of Almonte. Another son, Lieut Robert H. Cochran fell in the World War. Three sisters and four brothers also survive. They are Mrs Angus Sutherland and Miss Hattie of Almonte; Mrs Harold Philips of Regina; R.C. Wilson of Toronto; J.W.S. Wilson of Arnprior; Howard Wilson of Lloydminster, Sask., and William Wilson of Clayton. Some idea of the active interest taken by the late Mrs Cochran in the social and religious activities of the district may be gained from the following facts in connection with her long life. A member of the Presbyterian church and a life member of the Women's Missionary Society since 1912, she always took an active part in every organization of the church. She was the first president of the Almonte Branch of the Women's Institute and also organized the branches at Clayton and Antrim. She was a member of the Alexandra Club and an honourary director of the N.L.A.S. for many years. Funeral services were conducted at the home and grave on Sunday afternoon by Rev A.J. Fowlie, pastor of Almonte Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev J.M. Rutherford of the Reformed Presbyterian Church; Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist Church and Rev Andrew McLauchlin of Trinity United Church. The pallbearers were: Wilbert Cochran, Wm Jamieson, Sylvester Moir, Andrew Stewart, James Steele, and Wm Philip. Among the many floral tributes were those from the Presbyterian Church; Women's Institute; Canadian Legion; Granite Chapter of Royal Arch Mason and Mississippi Lodge A.F. & A.M. The death of Mrs Cochran is widely regretted breaking as it does another link with the historic past. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to surviving members of the family.
