    Obit. ? Mr Wm Young
On Monday of last week a simple operation for the removal of a small growth, but this was followed by other complications which reduced his strength so that on Friday alarm was caused by his condition, and though efforts were made to stimulate his vitality he never rallied and passed away on Friday afternoon. The deceased was the eldest son of the late Peter Young, of Ramsay and was born in Glasgow, coming to Canada with his parents in 1832 when about a year and a half of age. They settled on the farm afterwards owned by Mr I. Nontell on the tenth line, known as the Shepherd farm and a year of two later moved to the farm on the seventh line which became the homestead. In 1861 Mr Wm Young was married to Maggie Sutherland, who died the following year, leaving an infant daughter who is now Mrs Wm Cavers, living near Arnprior. A few years later he was married to Agnes Nicholson, who died in 1868, of her children, Peter E., of Sault Ste Marie, being the only one alive, another having died when young. During these years Mr Young had lived on a farm on the sixth line of Pakenham township, but he sold this and removed to Almonte about 1870, where he joined his brother, Alex. E., in the erection of the sawmill which was afterward operated by the Foleys and later by the Caldwells. In 1875 he entered partnership with his brothers, Robt. and Andrew, in the foundry and machine business started in the old tannery building on Water street, and in 1866 he withdrew and since then lived a retired life. In 1874 he married Mary Clint, who survives him, and to them one daughter, Mrs A. M. Sutherland, of Langton, was born. Mr Young's death is the first break in a family of eleven brothers and sisters. Those left are Mrs John McCarter, town; Alex. E., of Toronto; Mrs A. Sutherland and Mrs H. Cavers, Ramsay; Peter, John, Steen, Robt. and Andrew and Mrs John McFarlane, Almonte. The late Mr Young was a man of quiet disposition and was never in the public eye, but he filled his place in life, consistently and cheerfully He was a member of St Andrew's church and was a staunch Liberal.

    An Octegenarian at Rest.
When the word spread abroad a few days ago that Mrs. Wm. Young of the tenth line of Ramsay, was seriously ill of pneumonia, hope were expressed by many that she might recover, but such was not to be, and this Thursday morning at six o'clock, she passed peacefully away to enter the home beyond, in her 85th year. The late Mrs. Young was Marion Nicholson, a daughter of the late Alexander Nicholson of Ramsay, and she was married to Mr. Wm. Young in 1857 and went to "Brae Head" farm where they lived until January 7th, 1914, when Mr. Young died. Nine children were born to them, seven sons and two daughters, and with one exception, that of Dr. John Young, who died suddenly at Smiths Falls on January 17th, 1901, the family circle is still intact. Those who are living are Robt. W., on the homestead; Alex. N., in Ottawa; Wm. M., at Detroit, Mich.; Rev. Stephen at Saskatoon, Sask.; Peter A., of Crystal City, Man., (at present at Tampa, Florida); Rev. Henry at Morningside, Alta.; Geo., at home; Jessie (Mrs. T.G. Wilson), Arnprior; Annie (Mrs. P. Y. Sutherland), Ramsay. There are 17 grandchildren still living. The late Mrs. Young was a Presbyterian, and was a member of St. John's church in Almonte, prior to which she was connected with the eighth line church when Rev. Mr. Smith was the minister. There she was a regular attendant at the services at a time when to do so meant much more of a sacrifice of comfort and ease than it does today, and when she became an attender of St. John's church she was just as earnest and faithful until declining years and relaxing energy rendered it impossible for her to continue so consistent a course. The funeral will take place on Saturday, 13th inst., from the residence of her son, Robt. W. Young, to the eight line cemetery.

    Children:
    1. Alexander Graham Young was born in 1862 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Canada West; died on 8 Apr 1897.

  3. 6.  Gilbert Forgie was born on 23 Sep 1827 in Lanark Township, Lanark County, Canada West (son of Graham Forgie and Ann Norris Gemmill); died on 14 Jun 1912 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 16 Jun 1912 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.

    ?b?Mr Gilbert Forgie?/b?
Mr Gilbert Forgie had been suffering for some time from cancer of the stomach, and had been gradually growing weaker, until the end came on Friday, a welcome release to him from the suffering he endured with fortitude and patience, tenderly cared for by his daughter, Miss A.J. Forgie, and his granddaughter, Miss M. Cavers. The late Mr Forgie, who was in his 85th year, was born in Lanark township, a son of the late Gilbert Forgie, and one of a family of twelve children of whom five are still living. These are Mrs John Simpson of Winnipeg; David Forgie, of Cleveland, Ohio; Henry of Toronto; Robert in the west, and James in Almonte. A good many years ago he was married to Agnes Baird, and to them were born four children. Of these Mrs Thos Cavers is dead, and Robert of Ottawa, Graham on the homestead in Ramsay and Mrs P.E. Young of Sault Ste Marie, are still living. His first wife died quite a number of years ago, and he was married again, to Jane Dunfield, who died about sixteen years ago. To them were born three children, Jas G., at Renfrew, and Miss A.J. and David at the home in Almonte, to which Mr Forgie came about twenty-five years ago. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to the eighth line cemetery, and was largely attended, quite a number of relatives and friends coming from a distance to be present. The services were condcuted by Rev Mr Rattee. The pallbearers were sons of Mr Forgie's old neighbours when he was in Ramsay ? John Stewart, Donald Stewart, John Neilson, John W. Neilson, M. Aikenhead and J. McFarlane. The late Mr Forgie was a man of public spirit, and he took a deep interest in matters that were for the general good. he was an ardent Liberal in politics, and was one of the oldest officials of the North Lanark Agricultural Society, of which he had been an honourary director since advancing years compelled his retirement from the active list. But of all the interests that engaged his attention none were so dear to his heart as his church. he was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was one of the most active and generous in building of St John's and was always a liberal contributor to its support. he was always an active and energetic man, and it is only a few weeks since his familiar figure had been missed from the Express wagon as his son went his daily rounds

    Another Link Broken
This week it becomes our painful duty to chronicle the death of another of Canada's veteran pioneers in the person of Mr Peter Young, of Ramsay, which took place on Thursday evening last, at his late residence on the 7th line. Up to a week before his death he had been in his usual health, and gave promise of living many years; but a cold was contacted which gradually wore out the aged fellow; and although surrounded by every comfort, and supplied with everything that loving hearts and willing hands could bestow, yet the silken cord was snapped asunder, and the spirit returned to God who gave it, again verifying the truthfulness of the old adage, "the young may die, but old must." By death Mr Young, Ramsay loses one of its most highly esteemed residents and the news of his demise will be received with feelings of sorrow and regret by an unusually large circle of friends, as few men in this district were better or more favourably known than deceased. Mr Young was born at Braehead, near Glasgow, Scotland, on October 9th, 1804, and was consequently in his 82nd year when he died. At the age of ten years he formed the acquaintance of Jeanie Erskine, then living in Glasgow. That acquaintanceship grew, and ripened into marriage on November 14th, 1828, the ceremony being performed by Rev John Bar, of Dovehill. In the spring of 1832 Mr Young came to Canada and settled on his farm in the township of Ramsay, where, with the exception of one year, he lived continuously till death, and brought up his large family of seven sons and four daughters, all of whom, with their mother, survive to mourn his loss, and all the more on account of its being the first break in the family. The family are as follows; Sons ? William, Alex E., Peter, John, Robert, Stephen, and Andrew; daughters ? Mrs John McCarter; Mrs Angus Sutherland, Mrs H. Cavers, and Mrs John McFarlane. At the funeral, which took place on Saturday last, and was very largely attended, notwithstanding the severity of the weather, the seven sons acted as pall-bearers, it having been their wish to lay in their last resting-place the remains of their venerable father ? a sight we never witness before, and are not likely to again. All the members of the family are comfortably situated, all are married and living in homes of their own, either in Almonte or within a very few miles of it, and all can meet together on an hour's notice. Mr and Mrs Young celebrated their golden wedding seven years ago last November, with nearly all their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around them, which was quite a large company, and very comforting to the old couple. In many respected the late Mr Young was no ordinary man. He had a commanding appearance, stood over six feet high, and in his younger days possessed great physical strength. For many years, however, although always enjoying excellent health, he had been feeble in body; but, though feeble in body, he was not in mind. He had a strong, determined will and a clear, vigorous, inventive intellect. Fertile in resources, and strong in selfreliance, he was ever master of the occasion ? sure, like the old Roman general, to "find a way or make one" to accomplish his purpose. He was an enthusiastic Scotchman, of the most hospitable kind, and always retained a strong love for the land of his nativity. In religious matters he was a consistent Presbyterian, and in politics a sound Reformer, although he never took a very active part in the latter. But he has gone to his rest. he bore his last illness with great patience and resignation, and died with a strong and vivid hope of a blessed future.

    Obit. Mrs Peter Young
One by one the old settlers of Ramsay have been passing away to their long rest, until very few of those who settled her in the early years of this century are left. One of the earliest, Mrs Peter Young, of the 7th line Ramsay, passed away last Monday morning. She was the relict of the late Peter Young, who died in 1886. Both Mr and Mrs Young died in their 82nd year. Mrs Young's maiden name was Jean Erskine. She was born in Glasgow on Jan 14, 1810, and was married to Mr Young in that city. In 1832 the came to Ramsay, and resided in that township continuously to the time of their death. Mr and Mrs Young had seven sons and four daughter, all of whom are living and settled in comfortable homes of their own. The sons are William, Peter, John, Robert and Andrew, living in Almonte; Alexander, in Toronto; and Stephen, on the homestead. The daughters are Mrs John McCarter, Mrs Angus Sutherland, Mrs Henry Cavers and Mrs John McFarlane. Mrs Young enjoyed good health until she fell a few years ago and injured herself. She was able to move about the house until about two weeks ago. Her death was caused by a general break-up of the system through old age. Mrs Young was of a very gentle and kind disposition, and was greatly beloved by all who knew her. Both she and her husband were well-known and respected on account of their genial nature, and many a pleasant evening was spent under their hospitable roof that will long be remembered by their friends and neighbours. The large cortege that followed her remains to the 8th line cemetery on Wednesday showed the high esteem in which the deceased and her family are held in the community. Rev R. Knowles, of Pembroke, was the officiating clergyman, and six sons of the deceased were the pallbearers.

Furthermore the memorial marker states slightly incorrect dates and ages indicating that the memorial marker may have been placed some time afterward by adult children or grandchildren whose knowledge of their birth origins may have been faulty. Since it is not likely Alexander was a native of Inverness, perhaps his parents were. Furthermore, it is likely that his wife Janet McIntosh was a native of Inverness (as the McIntosh clan hails from there).
