    Russell Morris Turner
    Life-long area resident Russell Morris Turner died March 11, 1999 at his home in Ramsay Ward. He was 69. Mr. Turner was born January 25, 1930 in Ramsay Township to parents James and Margaret. He was educated in Ramsay, and married Mary Jane Poole on August 16, 1951 in Almonte. Mr. Turner was a farmer as well as a school bus driver for 20 years. He was past master of Mississippi Lodge No. 147. He is survived by his wife Mary and his daughter Lana (Keith McDonald) of Lunenburg, Ont. The funeral took place in the chapel at Kerry Funeral Home March 15, 1999 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Davis presiding. There will be a spring burial at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Villeneuve, Stuart Lackey, Keith Drynan, Jeff Robertson, Leo Dryburgh and Barry Burchill.

    James Barber Turner, RR 3 Almonte, died January 31 in the Almonte Hospital at the age of 89.

    Mr Turner was born November 16, 1890 in Ramsay township, the son of John Turner and Roseillia Barber. He grew up and lived all his life, working as a farmer.

    On June 3, 1925, Mr Turner married Margaret Young Sutherland. He was a member of Almonte United Church.

    Mr Turner is survived by his wife, one son, Russell, RR 3 Almonte, and three daughters, Evelyn (Mrs Bruce Sadler, Carleton Place), Ruth (Mrs John Steele, RR 1 Ramsay), and Mary (Mrs Harry Poole, Ottawa). He is also survived by a brother, P. Morris Turner, RR 2, Almonte, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

    Mr Turner is predeceased by one brother and five sisters.

    A public funeral was held February 2, from Kerry's Funneral Home to Almonte United Church. The service was conducted by Reverend Cecil Dodds.

    Burial took place at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Boyd Jamieson, Glen Robertson, Stuart McDougall, Gorden Turner, Joe Turner and Roy Lowe. Honourary pallbearers were Ross Craig, Morden Dncan, Norman Paul, Vic Kellough, Howard Sadler, and George Gomme

    William Poole
    Mr William Henry Poole (Bill) of 391 Shipman Dr., Almonte, passed away on June 2, 1979, at the Almonte General Hospital. He was in his 80th year. Born at Woodlawn, Ont., on December 25, 1899, he was the son of the late Henry Poole and Mary Cavanagh. Before retiring, Bill farmed at Woodlawn and in Ramsay Township. He was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church. He was married on October 8, 1925, at Fitzroy Harbour to the former Marjorie Wilson, who survives, together with one daughter and two sons: Mary (Mrs Russell Turner), Almonte; Harry, Nepean, and Jack, Smiths Falls. Also surviving are one sister, Susie (Mrs George Steele), Quyon, Quebec; one brother, George of Fitzroy Harbour, and four grandchildren Brenda, Christine and Catherine Poole, and Lana Turner. Predeceased by brothers Erwin and Jack, also son Edward and grandson Stirling. The funeral was held on Tuesday, June 5th, at 2 p.m. from St Paul's Anglican Church, Rev Harry Brown officiating, assisted by Rev George Bickley. Burial was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers were Robert Cochran, Zedric Mohr, Sam Wilson, Alvin Buck, Lloyd Botham and Ken Timmins.     Marjorie Poole
    Marjorie Poole (nee Wilson), a long-time resident of the Almonte area, died March 2 at the Almonte General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 90. She was born in Fitzroy Township in 1905 to the late Thomas and Jane Wilson. She also attended school there. She married the late William Poole in Fitzroy Harbour Oct 8, 1925. The couple raised two sons ? Harry and Jack, now both of Nepean ? and a daughter ? Mary (Russell) Turner. Both boys married women named Mary. She was predeceased by one son Eddie. Rev Rob Davis of St Paul's Anglican Church and Rev George Bickley led the funeral service at C.R. Gamble Funeral Home's chapel on March 5. Interment will be at the Auld Kirk Cemetery in the spring. The pallbearers were Don Cochran, Claude Cochran, John Steele, Alvin Buck, Evertt Dolan and John Poole.

    Mr. P.Y. Sutherland
    The death of Mr P.Y. Sutherland came as a shock to his many friends and acquaintances. He had been in ill health for several weeks and suddenly was called to rest on Wednesday, April 27th. Born and brought up in Ramsay, son of the late Angus Sutherland and his wife Margaret Young, deceased was in his 66th year. He was married to Annie Young, who predeceased him three years ago. Later he was married to Isabel McIntyre, who survives him. During his long residence in the district Mr Sutherland was a devoted member of Bethany United Church and also an Elder. In his home he was a devoted husband and father and an inspiration for good in every sense. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon from his late residence, Ninth line Ramsay to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Impressive services were conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon, Bethany United Church, assisted by Revs Fowlie, Presbyterian Church, Warren, Blakeney United Church and Rutherford, Reformed Presbyterian Church. The profusion of beautiful floral offerings received by the family testified to the high esteem in which Mr Sutherland was held by his many friends and acquaintances and to the deep sympathy generally felt. Many letters of sympathy and regret were also received by the family. The pallbearers were six elders, William Munroe, Alex Metcalfe, Hurbert Coxford, Adam Craig, W.J. Paul and ester Jamieson. The surviving relatives to mourn his loss are his wife and four daughters, Morlena, Mrs M. Turner; Margaret, Mrs J.B. Turner; Annie, Mrs Milton Symington, and Jean at home. and one stepdaughter, Miss Jean L. McIntyre of Ottawa. There are also three brothers and one sister, Angus, Milwaukee, and Mrs Dr. A.G. Young of Smiths Falls. The relatives in attendance from a distance were, Mr A.K. Sutherland, Milwaukee; Mr and Mrs D.     Sudden Death of Well Known Lady
    Mrs P.Y. Sutherland, of Ramsay was one of The Most Highly Esteemed Women of the District
    The sudden death last Friday afternoon, of Annie E.M. Young, wife of Mr Peter Y. Sutherland, one of the best and most highly esteemed women of this district, came as a great shock to her many friends and acquaintances. She had apparently been in her accustomed good health up to the time of the sudden and unexpected illness, with which she was stricken, and from which she never regained consciousness Born and brought up near Almonte, the daughter of the late William and Mrs Young of Ramsay Township, deceased was in her 55th year. She was married to Mr Peter Y. Sutherland of Ramsay Township, thirty years ago. In her own home she was a devoted wife and mother and an inspiration for good in every sense. During her long residence in this district. Mrs Sutherland took a leading part in church work. She was a devout member of Bethany United Church, Almonte, and was an indefatigable worker in connection with the Women's Missionary and Ladies' Aid Societies, deeply interested in all the activities of church life. Mrs Sutherland was loved and esteemed by many friends to whom she had endeared herself by her many charming and pleasant qualities. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon from her late residence, Ramsay Township to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Impressive services were conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon, of Bethany United Church, who was assisted by Rev W.H. McCracken of the Presbyterian Church, Almonte. One of the sincerest tributes ever paid a citizen of this district was the large assemblage at the funeral, the latter being one of the largest ever held in this locality. The profusion of beautiful floral offerings received by the family testified to the high esteem in which Mrs Sutherland was held by her many friends and acquaintances and to the deep sympathy generally felt. Many letters of sympathy and regret were also received by the family. The pallbearers were, Messrs Angus Sutherland, of Ramsay, Dr. A.G. Young, of Smiths Falls, Robert Buckham, of Kinburn, William Young of Claybank and M.R. Young and P.A.E. Young, Almonte. The surviving relatives to mourn her loss are, her husband and four daughters, Moriena (Mrs Morris Turner), Margaret (Mrs Jas. B. Turner), Annie and Jean at home; Four brothers, Robert W. on the homestead in Ramsay, and Peter, Stephen and Henry living in the West, and one sister Mrs Thomas Wilson, of Fitzroy. The relatives in attendance from a distance were, Mr Angus Sutherland and Mr John Sutherland, of Eganville; Mr and Mrs Harry Wright, Mr and Mrs Geo. Mick, Mr and Mrs Herbert Leach of Micksburg; Mr and Mrs Robert Young, Mrs Andrew Young, Mr and Mrs E.H. Knight and Mrs Uruqhart, Mrs Alex Young and son Mr Donald Young and Mr and Mrs James Sutherland, of Ottawa; Mr and Mrs David Sutherland and Mr William Young, of Detroit; Mr and Mrs Dr. Young and Miss Evelyn of Smiths Falls, Mr Robt. Buckham, Kinburn, Mr and Mrs Thos. Wilson and son Daniel, Mr and Mrs Allan Grierson, Mrs Baker and Mr and Mrs Geo. Etheringtom, of Arnprior; Mr and Mrs Wm. Young and Mr and Mrs Andrew Young, of Claybank The deepest sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved husband and family.
