    Died:
    "The Late Allan Gilmour"
It becomes our duty this week to chronicle the death of one of the earliest inhabitants of this neighbourhood in the person of Mr. Allan Gilmour, who passed away last Thursday, aged 74 years. His system had been gradually wearing out for six months past ? a general breakup. Mr. Gilmour's parents, the late Allan Gilmour and wife, came to Canada from Scotland with the early Settlers of 1821, and less than a year after their arrival here deceased was born on the lot on which he lived all his life and on which he died ? the corner lot on the 9th Line of Ramsay adjoining Col. Gemmill's property. He was therefore one of the very first children born in this vicinity, and saw the wonderful transformations that have taken place in the last three quarters of a century.
He was twice married ? first to Miss More, sister of Mr. James More of Ramsay by whom he had a family of seven children, who survive as follows:
    Allan A. Gilmour of Renfrew;
    John A,
    William & Joseph Gilmour,
    Mrs. James Townend and
    Mrs. W.F. Peden, Almonte; and
    Mrs. Wilson, Brockville.
Mrs. Gilmour died many years ago.
His second wife nee Miss Clarke of Packenham survives. The funeral took place on Saturday to the Eighth Line Cemetery when a large number of people turned out to pay the final tribute of respect to one who has so long been associated with the progress of this section.

Jas. Templeton, of Almonte, Served in Black Watch
    - Lived 95 Years.
?/b?Almonte, July 20 - The funeral of the late James Templeton took place from his residence on Farm street to the Eighth Line cemeteryon Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was attended by a large number. he deceased gentleman was one of Almonte's oldest and most respected citizens. He was ninety five years and seven months at the time of his death. With the exception of being somewhat hard of hearing, he preserved his faculties and was hale and haearty until a short time before his death. He was an enthusiastic curler for seventy-five years, fifty of which were connected with the Almonte club and the local curlers showed their respect for him by turning out in a body to his funeral.
The deceased was born at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, Dec 16th. 1804, and in youth followed the occupation of his father that of a carpet weaver. At twenty-one years of age he went to Glasgow and enlisted for seven years in the famous Black Watch, or 42nd. Highlanders. He was first sent to Ireland and from there to Giblralter and finally Malta at all of which places he performed garrison duty. He had many strange tales to tell of his experience as a soldier in the latter two places. His term of service having expired, he returned to Auld Scotia and in 1842 immigrated to Canada with his family in the Renfrewshire. It took them two months to reach Montreal. They took the boat to Smiths Falls thence by wagon to Almonte.
He was emplyed by Mr. Wylie. He purchased part of lot 19, concession 8, Ramsay and began his labours in the new country. AT that time there were only six or eight houses in Almonte. For about forty years he worked on the farm when he retired to spend the rest of his days as a citizen of our town. His wife died about seven years ago in her ninetieth year. They had eight children, seven of them survive, one having died when coming to Canada, when an infant, from the fatigue of the journey.

James married Agnes Parker Lindsay in 1823. Agnes was born on 29 Dec 1804 in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland; died on 22 Dec 1893 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. The Harvest of Death

    A Double Bereavement - A Great-Great-Grandparent's Death

While the remains of Mrs. Templeton, jr., were lying in the house on Friday morning (the two families both live under the same roof) were shocked when a member of the household made the solemn announcement that Mrs. James Templeton, sen., had also passed to her reward. The venerable lady quietly fell into the sleep from which there is no waking, and the members of the family for a time could scarcely realize the fact that the grim messenger had again served his fatal summons in their dwelling. Extreme age and the excitement consequent on her daughter-in-law's illness and demise are given as the cause of the old lady's death.

The late Mrs. Templeton was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, Dec. 29, 1804, and was within a few days of being 89 years of age when called away. Her maiden name was Agnes Lindsay. Mr. and Mrs. Templeton were united in marriage in Scotland over seventy years ago, and during that unusually long period of wedded life were greatly attached to each other. They came to Canada in 1842, settling in Ramsay that same year, and they have lived continuously in Ramsay and Almonte ever since. Eight children were born to them, seven of whom survived, viz.: Mrs. James Gilmour, Mrs A.A. Gilmour, Mrs. Wm. Young and Jas. Templeton, of this town; Mrs. McKillop of Beachburg: Mrs D. Ledgerwood, of Arnprior; and Wm. Templeton, of Emerson, Manitoba. There are about 125 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild - the son of Mr. Wm. Young, of Perth.

Deceased had always been in good health, and able to attend to her household duties up to the ever of her death. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, when a very large cortege followed the remains to their resting place in the eighth line cemetery. Among those who attended were many of the oldest settlers in the neighbourhood. The sympathy of all is with the patriarchal husband in the great loss which he has sustained, and which he feels most keenly.
