    Bertram Clarke
    Suffering a heart attack in Ottawa Monday afternoon, about 4 o'clock, Bertram Clarke, 53-year-old civil servant of 425 Somerset street west, Ottawa, collapsed on the street and died instantly before medical aid could arrive. Mr Clarke, veteran of the First Great War, had been in ill-health for some time and for the past week had not been to work under orders of his physician, Dr M.D. Graham, of the Department of Pensions and National Health. Mr Clarke had resided in Ottawa for the past 23 years and during that time had been employed in the personnel branch of the Department of Transport.

    Born in Maine, U.S., he was the son of the late Mr and Mrs David Clarke, and came to Canada 51 years ago. The family settled at Almonte. There, 32 years ago, he married Pearl Illingworth, who survives. Mr Clarke attended the United Church. During the First Great War, Mr Clarke served with the 73rd Regiment from 1914 until 1918.

    Besides his widow, he is survived by three daughters: (Jean) Mrs Dan Larocque, Almonte; the Misses Florence and Joan Clarke, Ottawa; a brother, Hugh Clarke, Moose Jaw and two sisters, Mrs Charles Comba of Toronto, and Miss Hattie Clarke, Almonte. The remains were brought to Almonte Tuesday morning and rested at the home of Mr Harry Houston until the funeral Thursday afternoon. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev W.J. Scott of Bethany United Church officiated at the services. The pallbearers were three former members of deceased's 73rd Regiment, comrades in the last war, Messrs O.L. James, Jack Joss and Wallace Honeyborne; and W.A. Jamieson, Hal Kirkland and E.J. Lee. Included in the floral tributes were wreaths from Dept of Transport, and Percy St. School, Ottawa an the Almonte Branch of the Canadian Legion.

    The passing of Mrs David Clark on Wednesday, January 28 will be noted with regret by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the district. She was in her 78th year. The deceased was Margaret Munro, a duaghter of the late Mr and Mrs Hugh Munro and was born at Halls Mills, coming to Almonte while quite a young girl. She was married to David Clark and for over 50 years resided in the town of Almonte where, by her kindley disposition and many noble qualities she won for herself a very wide cirle of friends. She is survived by her husband, 2 sons and 2 daughters all of whom were present at the funeral on Friday, January 30 to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr Hugh Clark of Cardross, Saskatchewan, Mr Bert Clark of the Civil Service, Ottawa, Mrs Charles Comba, of Toronto, Miss Hattie Clark of Edwards, Ontario together with the husband who are left to mourn her loss. She also leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The late Mrs Clark had been in poor health for several years but was only confined to her bed during the last four weeks. Alife long member of Trinity Church, the funeral which was largely attended, was conducted by Rev A.J. Terrill, who paid tribute to the long and useful life of the departed. The pallbearers were her two sons, Hugh and Bert Clark; Mr John Kearney, a nephew; Robert Munro, a brother; Mr C Comba, a son-in-law and Mr Allan Comba, a grandson. Those attending the funeral from a distance wer: Hugh Clark of Cardross, Saskatchewan; Mr Bert Clark of Ottawa; Miss Hattie clark of Edwards; Mrs A.W. Dunley, nee Gladys Comba of Stratford, Ontario; and Mr and Mrs C Comba of Toronto.
