    Child Dies When Run Over By Truck In Lane

    IVAN CHARLES HAMILTON
    The community was deeply shocked on Tuesday morning, November 13th to hear of the accidental death of Ivan Charles Hamilton, youngest son of Frank Hamilton and his wife Edith Virgin. He was born on the 25th day of April, 1960. Besides his sorrowing parents he is survived by two brothers, and two sisters, Allan, Heather, Sandy and Gwen, also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Virgin of Clayton and Mr. Harry Hamilton of Appleton. The funeral which was very largely attended was held on Thursday afternoon from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte and conducted by Rev. Francis Gerard with interment at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were three cousins, Bobbie Stewart, Arnold and Stuart Virgin and a close friend, Brian Drynan. Many beautiful floral tributes and expressions of sympathy were received by the grief stricken family.

    Harry Francis (Frank) Hamilton
    Harry Francis (Frank) Hamilton, a life-time resident of Huntley Township, died Nov 12 at the Almonte General Hospital. He was 75 years old. He was born Jan 6, 1919, son of the late Harry Hamilton and his wife, the late Marion Aitken. He always resided on the Hamilton homestead where he was an active farmer, livestock and machinery dealer. On Sept 24, 1949, he married Edith Virgin of Clayton. Mr Hamilton is survived by his children Allan (Barbara), Heather (Mrs Robert Clement), Sandy (Patricia) and Gwen (Mrs Kevin O'Connell), all of Almonte. He was predeceased by two children, Ivan and Pamela. He is also survived by his brothers, Ivan of Carleton Place, and Albert of Hamilton, his sisters Hazel (Mrs Hedley Stewart) Almonte, Janetta (Mrs Robert McKenzie) of Stittsville and Beatrice (Mrs Len Kilsby) of Quesnel, B.C. He was predeceased by one brother, Alex. Mr Hamilton is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Rev Ted Colwell conducted the funeral on Tuesday, Nov 14 at 2 p.m. at the Almonte United Church. Interment will be at Auld Kirk Cemetery. As part of the service, Heather Clement shared some thoughts about her father's legacy. One of Mr Hamilton's most requested violin tunes, Amazing Grace, was played by grandson Tim O'Connell and Gwen's nephew, Danny O'Connell to conclude the service. Honourary pallbearers were Eddie Kennedy, Jim Galvin, Joe Madden, Roy Lowe, Glen Rivington and Jack Virgin. Pallbearers were grandsons Clayton and Neil Hamilton and Jamie Clement, nephews Ronnie McKenzie and Donald Stewart and friend Kevin Simpson.

    Edith Agnes Hamilton passed away Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Almonte County Haven. She was 78. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Clayton, Ontario on November 25,1925. She was the youngest child of the late Jean Rintoul, and was educated at Galbraith. She later went to work for the Findlay family of Carleton Place. On September 24, 1949, she married Harry Francis (Frank) Hamilton and the couple resided on the Hamilton homestead in Huntley Township, and carried on a fanning business. Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her children Allan (Barbara), Heather, Sandy (Patricia) and Gwen (Kevin O'Connell), all of the Almonte area. She was predeceased by two children, Ivan and Pamela. She is also survived by her sister Jeanette (the late Wm. J. Stewart) of Almonte and her brother Nathan (Laura) of Clayton. Mrs. Hamilton was a loving grandmother to Clayton, Neil and Peter Hamilton, Jennifer (Kevin Cooney), Jamie (Kim) and Jonathan Clement, Allison, Angela and Rebecca Hamilton, and Tim, Jason and Ryan O'Connell. She was great "Granny Edie" to Kelsey, Harrison and Samantha Cooney, and Owen and Isabelle Clement. The Appleton Women's Institute, of which Mm. Hamilton was a lifetime member, conducted a Memorial Service on Jan. 11. The funeral was conducted at Kerry Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Barry Goodwin on Monday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m A eulogy, read by Jennifer Cooney, outlined her grandmother's life fulfillments. Spring interment will be at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Hamilton's 12 grandchildren.

    Huntley is an historic township originally part of Carleton County in eastern Ontario, Canada.

    Huntley was located in the western part of the county, bordered to the northwest by Fitzroy Township, to the northeast by March Township, to the southwest by Ramsay Township and to the southeast by Goulbourn Township. It includes the communities of Carp, Corkery, Huntley, Manion Corners, and Westwood.

    The township was established in 1841. The first settlers in the area were immigrants from Ireland in the early 19th century. Huntley took its name from Huntly Castle, associated with Charlotte Lennox, Duchess of Richmond, whose husband Charles served as Governor General of British North America from 1818 to 1819.

    In 1974, it was amalgamated with Torbolton and Fitzroy to form West Carleton. In 2001, West Carleton became part of the new city of Ottawa.
