    William James Sutherland
    The death of William James Sutherland, formerly of R.R. 2 Almonte, occurred at Lanark Lodge, Perth, on Wednesday, April 30, 1975, following a lengthy illness. He was 73. Born at Almonte on April 23, 1902, he was a son of the late William Edward Sutherland and his wife Edna Travers. He received his education at the Union Hall school and Almonte High School. Mr Sutherland farmed in Ramsay Township at Union Hall. He was a member of St George's Anglican Church, Clayton, and of Mississippi Lodge A.F. and A.M. Almonte. He served his municipality as a member of the Ramsay Township School Area Board. Always interested in sports he was a member for years of the Almonte Curling Club, and in his younger days was a member of the powerful Union Hall Tigers baseball team. He was married at Cedar Hill in July 1926, to the former Norah May Lowry, who predeceased him. Surviving him are four sons and four daughters: John Edward and Gerald Raymond of Ottawa; William Lowry, Montreal; David Allan, Toronto; Doris (Mrs F. Roche), Toronto; Frances (Mrs R. Stewart), Picton; Helen (Mrs R. Newman), Midland, and Phyllis (Mrs M. Gray), Ottawa. Also surviving are three brothers, J. Travers Sutherland and David B.W. Sutherland of Ottawa and Lloyd C. Sutherland of Toronto. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, to St George's Anglican Church, Clayton, with burial at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev H.H. Brown of St George's conducted the services. The pallbearers were four sons, John William, Gerald and David, a nephew, David Sutherland, and a neighbour, William Bellamy.

    William married Nora May Lowry in 1926 in Cedar Hill, Pakenham Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Mr William E. Sutherland
    Word has reached Almonte of the death in the Ottawa Civic Hospital early this Thursday morning of William E. Sutherland, a former resident of Union Hall section. He was 80 years of age and had been seriously ill only a few days. The late Mr Sutherland was born at the homestead, Union Hall, now occupied by a son, William J. Seventeen years ago he and his wife removed to Ottawa where they resided since. Deceased was a member of Guthrie United Church when he lived in this district and was an elder for some time. He is survived by his wife, the former Edna Travers and four sons, namely, Wm J. of Union Hall; John T. and David B.W. of Ottawa and Flying Officer Lloyd C. of Toronto. While funeral arrangements were not completed Thursday morning it is understood a service will be held in Ottawa after which the remains will be conveyed to Almonte where a service will be held at the residence of Mr W.E. Scott, Elgin Street, Further particulars will be published next week.

    Funeral of W.E. Sutherland
    The funeral was held on Dec 25th of Mr William E. Sutherland, a former resident of the Union Hall section, who had resided in Ottawa for upwards of 17 years. A service was held at Burney's Funeral Parlours, there, at which Rev Cannon Brunet, a former Anglican rector at Clayton, officiated. The body was then brought to Almonte and a service was conducted at the residence of Mr W.E. Scott, Elgin Street, by Rev W.J. Scott, pastor to Bethany United Church. The remains were then conveyed to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs Wm Dunlop, Kenneth Robertson, Clarence Kellough, John Reid, Wm Bellamy and Fred Travers of Ottawa.

    John Lowry

    Death came suddenly to Mr. John Lowry, Saturday, at his home on Perth street, Almonte. He was a former well known resident of Cedar H ill and was much respected throughout the district. Born at Cedar Hill 69 years ago, Mr. Lowry lived there on a farm until about two years ago, when he moved to Almonte. Of a quiet nature, he was held in the highest regard by all who knew him . Mr. Lowry was a member of Bethany United church, Almonte. Surviving, in addition to his widow, formerly Rachel Hill, are one son, Howard, at home; four daughters, Mrs. A.S. Laird and Gertrude and Maud Lowry of Ottawa; and Mrs. William Sutherland of Almonte; two brothers, Thomas Lowry of Hamilton, and Samuel Lowry of Pakenham; and two sisters, Mrs. A.C. Stephenson of Kinburn, and Mrs. T.Y. Wilson of Pakenham . Pallbearers were two sons-in-law and four nephews of deceased, namely: A.S. Laird, Ottawa; William Sutherland , Union Hall; Palmer Wilson, Pakenham; Lowry and Harvey Stevenson, and Edwin Baird of Kinburn. The funeral, a very large one, was held from the late residence of deceased on Monday afternoon to Cedar Hill cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. J. R. MacCrimmon, assisted by Rev. Mr. Clarke, of Merivale, a friend of the family.

    Mrs John Lowry

    The death occurred on Wednesday, July 23rd, at the home of her son, Howard, 7th line of Pakenham, of Mrs. John Lowry in her 80th year. She was a daughter of the late George Hill and his wife Elizabeth Shepherd and was born in Birmingham, England, coming to this country when she was 21 years of age. In 1894 she married John Lowry of the Cedar Hill section of Pakenham Township where they farmed until 1928 when they removed to Almonte. The husband died in 1930. She leaves one son Howard, Pakenham and four daughters, namely, Mrs. Allan Laird (Olive); Mrs. Harry Hooper (Gertrude): Mrs. Henry Freemen (Maud) all of Ottawa and Mrs. Wm. Sutherland (Nora) of Union Hall. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, July 25th from the home of the son, Howard at 3 p.m. (D.S.T.) to the United Cemetery, Cedar Hill. Service at the residence at 2.30.

    Mrs W.R. Sutherland
    Two weeks ago last Tuesday Mrs W.R. Sutherland, of Ramsay, came to Almonte on a visit to her niece, Miss M. McFarlane. A few days later she was taken ill of congestion of the lungs, and on Sunday last death ended her sufferings. Mrs Sutherland, whose maiden name was Jessie Campbell, was a sister of Mr David Campbell, for many years a resident of Almonte, and of Mrs Cavers, living near Appleton. She was 64 years of age, and leave two sons (John and William) and two daughters (Maggie, at home, and Mrs Scott, of Dominion City, Manitoba) to mourn her death. The funeral took place on Tuesday and was largely attended by those who knew and esteemed the deceased.

    Mr. Samuel Lowry, an old and highly respected resident of Pakenham Township, died at his residence on the 12th April. He was born in County Down, Ireland in 1817 and was therefore 68 years old at the time of his death. He was an influential member of the Methodist Church and for many years led the singing for the denomination in his home church. He left a wife and large family to mourn his loss. His remains were interred in the cemetery at Cedar Hill, Carleton Place Herald
