Patrick Garland was the son of Nicholas Garland and his wife Ann Willoughby.

He married Eliza Whitney.

Patrick and Eliza had 7 children:

1. Richard Whitney Garland born February 7, 1860. He was twice married. His first wife was Esther Ellen Keyes. His second wife was Sarah Ann Rutledge. Richard died October 8, 1920 in Malta, Montana, USA.

2. Ann Jane Garland, born in 1862. She married James Valentine Johnston. She died October 17, 1898.

3. William H. Garland, born in 1864. He married Isabella Jane Clark. He died February 27, 1936.

4. Mary Parmellia Garland, born in 1869. She married Christopher Smith Johnston. They moved to Saskatchewan. Mary's mother Elizabeth was living with the family in 1911 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

5. Eliza Garland born March 6, 1871. She married Herman G. Robinson. She died May 31, 1942.

6. Arabella Garland, born October 15, 1873. She married William Cyrus Hunter. She died May 30, 1939.

7. John Wesley Garland, born July 3, 1877. He died March 5, 1882.
