    Peacefully in hospital, Ottawa, Ontario on Saturday, January 19, 2002, at age 66. William Mervin Giles, beloved husband of Paula Mae Duncan. Dear father of Greg (Angela) Giles, Cedar Hill; Tracey (Mrs. Steve Rothwell), Cedar Hill; Tanya Giles-McMartin, Carp; Brent (Shelly) Giles, Almonte and Chris at home. Dear brother of Millie (Mrs. Russell Lowe), Almonte and Willard Giles, Arnprior. Dear brother-in-law to Alma Giles and Howard Boal. Also survived by 9 grandchildren Jennifer, Stacey, Corbin, Colin, Mellissa, Gavin, Rebecca, Zack, Megan and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by 2 brothers, Harvey, Jim and by 3 sisters Myrtle, Eleanor and Marion.     GILES, Paula Mae

    After a long and courageous will to live, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at Fairview Manor, Almonte, Ontario on Monday, November 26, 2007. Dearly loved wife of the late Mervin Giles. Mother of Greg (Angela) of Cedar Hill, Tanya of Pakenham, Tracey (Steve Rothwell), Brent (Shelly), all of Almonte and Chris (Julie) of Vars. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Corbin, Colin, Gavin, Rebecca, Zack and Megan. Will be missed by several aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Allan and Dorothy (Paul) Duncan. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and entire staff of the Almonte General Hospital, Rosamond Wing and Fairview Manor for their care and compassion through the past years. You made our Mom's last few years better than we could have hoped. Friends may call at the Almonte Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 154 Elgin St., Almonte on Friday, November 30th from 11 a.m. until time of memorial service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment of cremated remains to follow at Auld Kirk Cemetery.     THOMAS H. GILES
    Following a short illness, Thomas H. Giles passed away on Thursday, May 29th, at the R. M. Hospital, Almonte, in his 85th year. Born near Clayton, he was a son of the late James Henry Giles and his wife, Mary Smith. In 1912, he married Margaret Ellen Smithson who predeceased him in 1940. He is survived by three daughters (Myrtle), Mrs. O. MacDowall; (Mildred), Mrs. Russell Lowe, both of Pakenham; (Eleanor), Mrs. Howard Boal of Almonte and four sons, Harvey, Willard and Mervin, all of Pakenham and James of Edmonton, Alta. A daughter, Marion, died in 1933. He also leaves three sisters, (Eliza Jane) Mrs. Richard Evans of Burritts Rapids; Mary A. of Clayton; (Margaret), Mrs. Jas. Jackson of Edmonton, Alta., and one brother, Edward Giles of Almonte. William, deceased. The funeral was held from the homestead on Saturday, May 31st, at 2 p.m. to St. Mark's Anglican Church, Pakenham, with Rev. A. Irwin officiating. Service at the house was conducted by Rev. Wm. Sunter, minister of the United Church, Pakenham. Pallbearers were Murray Reid, Gordon Donaldson, Jack Forsythe, Keith Johnston, Holly Smith and Ira Smith. Interment was in St. Mark's Cemetery, Pakenham.

    Thomas married Margaret Ellen Smithson in 1912. Margaret (daughter of Samuel Smithson and Margaret Ann Loney) was born in Jan 1892 in Darling Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 16 Oct 1940 in Pakenham Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in St. Mark's Anglican Cemetery, Pakenham, Mississippi Mills, Ontario, Canada.     Mrs. Thomas H. Giles
    People of this district were shocked to learn of the death, Wednesday morning of Mrs. Thomas H. Giles of Cedar Hill, following only a few days' illness. She was 49 years of age. Mrs. Giles was the former Margaret Ellen Smithson, a daughter of the late Samuel Smithson and his wife Margaret Loney of Darling. She was married 28 years ago, to Thos. H. Giles and has since resided on the homestead where she passed away. To this union were born three girls and four boys, namely Myrtle, Mrs. A. McDowall, Pakenham Township; Mildred, Eleanor, Harvey, James, Willard and Mervin at home. In addition to the above members of the family she is survived by her husband, three sisters and six brothers. The latter are Mrs. John Box, White Lake; Mrs. Adam Lotan, Almonte; Mrs. Wm. Nero, Arnprior; Richard and Christopher of Saskatchewan; George of Blakeney; William and James of Almonte, and John of Cedar Hill. The late Mrs. Giles was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Pakenham. She took an active part in the life of her home community and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. The funeral will be held from the family residence, eighth concession of Pakenham, on Friday, Oct. 18th, to St. Mark's Church, Pakenham, arriving there for service at 2 p.m. standard time. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.

    ALLAN M. DUNCAN

    Following six month's critical illness, Allan M. Duncan passed away at his home on the 11th line of Ramsay Township on Monday, October 31, in his 41st year.
    A son of Mr. Edward Duncan and his wife, Beatrice Miller, now of Carleton Place, he was born on the Duncan homestead on the 11th line.
    All of his life was spent in this community and prior to his marriage in June 1941, he purchased the John Ryan farm which he farmed successfully up to the time of his illness.
    He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy Paul, and one daughter, Paula, aged seven.
    Besides his father and mother, he is survived by three sisters and five brothers, namely: Mabel, Mrs. Wm. Taber of Toronto; Muriel, Mrs. Walter Redden of Kingston; Rae, Mrs. Allan Lytle of Arnprior; William of Pine Portage, Ont.; Morden, on the homestead; Kenneth, 8th line of Ramsay, and Gordon and Hugh, 11th line of Ramsay.
    Two brother are deceased, Harold and Bert, who was killed overseas in World War II.
    Mr. Duncan's long illness was all the more tragic because he was suffering from leucaemia [leukemia] for which there is no known cure. Of the three local young people whose illness last spring was diagnosed as leucaemia, he alone responded to treatment temporarily and hope for his ultimate recovery was held for some time.
    Held in the highest regard as a neighbor and by a host of friends, his passing is a loss to the community that is deeply regretted.
    The funeral was held on Thursday, November 3rd, at 2.30 o'clock p.m. from his late residence to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. H. C. Wolfraim, minister of Bethany United Church of which deceased was a member, officiated. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Predeceased by one brother, William D. Paul. A private family Funeral Service was held at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte on Saturday, November 2nd, 2002 at 12:00 noon. Rev. Heather Kinkaid officiated. Interment took place in the family plot at Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. In memory of Dorothy, donations made to the Robertson House Retirement Residence, 1 Mill Hill Rd., Nepean, Ontario, K2H-9L6 would be greatly appreciated by Dorothy's family.
