    OBITUARY
    MR. CECIL MORE - The death occurred suddenly in Almonte General Hospital on Saturday afternoon, February 29th of Cecil Earl More in his 65th year. Born in Ramsay Township, he was the son of the late W. R. More and his wife Minnie Julia Toop. He lived most of his life on the More homestead which was originally purchased from the Government in 1840 by his grandfather, James More. He retired in 1950 and moved to Almonte. On April 23. 1931 he married Miss Ann K. E. Drynan of Clayton who survives with five daughters: Elizabeth (Mrs. Lorne Hudson) Merrickville; Irene (Mrs. Ed Middleton) Ottawa; Margaret (Mrs. John Cochran) Almonte; Carmel, Ottawa and Isobel (Mrs. Donald Cathcart) Stittsville. He also leaves two brothers, Edwin L. of Ramsay and William J. of Wood River, Ill., and two sisters, Edith (Mrs. Root) San Francisco and Ethel (Mrs. P. J. DeRouchie) Meadville, Pa. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 3 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Leslie Elder of Almonte Presbyterian Church conducted the service and interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were Messrs: Wilbert McKay, Charles Symington, James McGregor, Melville Lockhart, Jack Gleeson and Andrew More. Many beautiful floral tributes were received. Also contributions to the Ontario Heart Foundation and the Bible Society.

    Cecil married Kathleen Elizabeth Ann Drynan on 23 Apr 1931 in Clayton Village, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Peacefully in hospital at Almonte on Thursday, August 9, 2007. Ann Drynan of Almonte, age 97 years. Predeceased by her husband Cecil E. and her eldest daughter, Elizabeth Hudson. Beloved mother of Irene (Ted) Middleton, Margaret (late John) Cochran, Carmel (Bob) Green, Isobel (Don) Cathcart and son-in-law Lorn Hudson. Special aunt of Mary (Munro) Davey and Walter More. Gram will be sadly missed by numerous grandchildren, great- and great-greatgrandchildren. Predeceased by 5 brothers: William, Edgar, Stanley, Dean, George and Clifford and by 2 sisters, Jessie Rathwell and Ellen Stewart. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may pay their respects at the C. R. GAMBLE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 127 Church Street, Almonte on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and where Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday at 2 pm, Rev. Jim Ferrier officiating.     William R. More Dies in Ramsay Township
    ALMONTE, Ont., May 16 - (Special) - William R. More, noted horse-breeder and widely known agriculturist, died on Sunday at the home of his son, Edwin More, of Ramsay township. Mr More was in his 77th year and had been in ill-health for the past 10 months. A son of the late Mr and Mrs James More, Scotch settlers of this district, Mr More made his home on the 7th line of Ramsay and specialized in Clydesdale breeding stock. His home was the meeting place of many horsemen. Surviving are his wife, the former Minnie Toop, of Almonte, whom he married 54 years ago; three daughters, Mrs M. Root, California; Mrs F. Girouard, Ottawa, and Mrs Peter Derouchie, Rochester, N.Y.; four sons, Alfred Carberry, Manitoba; William, Alton, Iowa, and Edwin and Cecil, of Ramsay township. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from his late residence to Auld Kirk cemetery

    Mrs W.R. More
    The death occurred on Monday, Jan 16th, of Minnie Julia Toop, widow of the late W.R. More, at the homestead on the 7th line of Ramsay, at the age of 86. Born at Wiltshire, England, in 1864, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Frederick Sidney Toop, she came to Canada with her parents at the age of eight and lived at Cornwall later coming to Almonte. She was married in April, 1883 to the late W.R. More and they resided in Ramsay Township. She leaves four sons and three daughters, Alfred of Carberry, Man.; William of Wood River, Ill.; Edwin and Cecil of Ramsay; Edith, Mrs Root of San Fransciso, Calif.; Ida, Mrs Frank Guerard, Carleton Place; Ethel, Mrs Percy DeRouchie, Meadville, P.A. Three brothers, W.A. Toop, Almonte; Gordon, Carleton Place and Percy, of Edmonton. One son, Welland, and one daughter, Minnie, predeceased her. Among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths and sprays from the family, Shell Oil Co., Alton, Ill; Light Oil Dept., Alton Ill. The pall-bearers were Welland and Harvey Timmins, Walter More, James McKay, Wilbert McEwen and Harold Miller. Rev T. DeCourcy Rayner conducted the funeral service which was held at the home of her son, Cecil, on Wed., Jan 18th, at 3 p.m. to the Auld Kirk vault for interment in the family plot in the spring

    Frederick Sydney Toop
    One of the oldest residents of Almonte passed away on Saturday, February 12, in the person of Mr Frederick Sydney Toop at the age of 90 years. The late Mr Toop was the son of William Toop and Elizabeth Eyers of Marsh, Wiltshire, England. He was married to Miss Rachel Sarah Haines at Westborough, in Wiltshire, in 1857 and if he had lived they intended celebrating the seventieth anniversary of their marriage on the 1st of July on the occasion of their sixty ninth anniversary they received a letter of congratulation from King George. They have resided in Almonte for 54 years with the exception of a year or two spent in Cornwall, in the home which Mr Toop built in the New England section on Christine street. Mr Toop was sick only a short time and his passing came as a shock to his friends. Besides his widow, who is 87 years old. he leaves to mourn his loss four sons and three daughters, namely William and Augustus of Almonte; Gordon of Ramsay and Percy, of Edmonton Alta; Nellie, Mrs Robt. Lees, of Moose Jaw; Lillie, Mrs Wm Hamilton, of Regina; Minnie, Mrs Wm. More of Ramsay; all of whom were present at the funeral. Arthur died about 23 years ago and two children in infancy He is also survived by 45 grandchildren and 36 great grand children. The funeral on Tuesday, which was largely attended was conducted by his pastor, Rev A.C. Dixon, of the Baptist Church of which deceased was the oldest member, assisted by Rev E.P.H. King, a former minister, now of Arnprior. Rev J.M. Rutherford and Rev J.R. MacCrimmon. Interment was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were his four sons: Messrs William, Augustus, Gordon, Percy and a son-in-law Mr More also Mr Wm Simpson. Mrs Toop will live with her son, Mr Augustus Toop.

    Frederick married Rachel Sarah Haynes in 1857.     Mrs Frederick S. Toop
    Death claimed another well-known and highly respected resident of this district in the person of Mrs Frederick S. Toop, who passed away at the home of her son, Mr William H. Toop, New England, on Tuesday of this week. Deceased whose maiden name was Rachael Sarah Haines, was born at Wiltshire, England, on July 17th, 1840. She was married in that place on July 1st, 1857 to Mr Frederick S. Toop, who predeceased her in February, 1927. The family come to Canada in 1872 and took up residence in Almonte, where she had spent the remainder of her life. Left to mourn the loss of a loving mother are seven children: ? William H., of town; Mrs W.R. More, Ramsay; Mrs W.H. Hamilton, Regina; Mrs Robt Lees, Moose Jaw; Augustus, town; Percy, Edmonton, and Gordon in Ramsay. Two children died in infancy and Arthur E., in Ramsay, in 1904. She lived to see the children of the fourth generation and leaves 46 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The funeral took place from the residence of her son, Mr William Toop on Thursday. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
