Ramsay Councillor Dies Suddenly Of Heart Seizure Friday Morning
General regret was felt last Friday morning when it was learned that W. Oswald Bingham, Well-known farmer and councillor of Ramsay Township had died suddenly of a heart attack at his home near Blakeney. He was in his 60th year. While Mr Bingham had not been feeling as well as usual recently, and while he had some warning that he should go easy because of his heart, his death came as a shock because his condition was not regarded as serious. On Friday morning when he awakened he complained of felling ill and succumbed to his trouble before a doctor could arrive. Mr Bingham was born on the homestead where he died, a son of the late Abram Bingham and his wife Jennie Connors. In 1920, he married the former Elsie Caranahan who survives together with two daughters and one son, namely, Mrs Robt Davis (Helen) of Belleville; Mrs Stewart Currie (Doris) of Sudbury and Keith at home. There are also four brothers and one sister; Mrs J.S. Ragsdale (Margaret) of Carp; James of Blakeney, Hiram, Abe, John in Manitoba, and five grandchildren. Another sister, Mrs John Dowdall (Minnie) of the Cedar Hill section of Pakenham, died in 1946. Mr Bingham attended the Tenth Line School and Almonte High School after which he continued on the farm to the end. He was a most successful farmer in every respect and his land was always a credit to his efforts and care. Only a short time ago he purchased a second farm from Mr. Sam Arthur. Ossie, as he was known to his friends, was considered one of the best members ever to sit on Ramsay Council, bringing to bear on municipal affairs the same sound and practical judgement he used running his own business. In politics he was a staunch Conservative. The funeral, one of the most largely attended in years was held on Sunday afternoon from the Scott Funeral Home, Elgin Street, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev J. Ray Anderson of the Almonte United Church, deceased having been a member of the denomination at Blakeney. Pallbearers were Reeve D. Hollie Lowry and Messrs Oral Arthur, Sam Arthur, Thos McGill, Stewart Currie and Weldon Timmins. A profusion of floral pieces testified to the respect and sympathy felt by many friends.

William married Elsie Victoria Carnahan on 30 Jun 1920 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Elsie (daughter of William Carnahan and Sarah Jane "Jennie" Grey) was born on 24 Nov 1897 in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 26 Aug 1996 in Peterborough, Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
