    Final Tribute Paid To William McEwen
    Well-known Ramsay Twp. Farmer Passes Away In His 83rd Year.
    Final tribute was paid to the memory of William McEwen, 7th line, Ramsay, at his funeral held Tuesday in Bethany United church Almonte. Rev W.J. Scott conducted the service. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr McEwen was a member of one of the pioneer families of this district, his father being the first white male born in Ramsay township. He had been in ill health only short time and died on Saturday night in his sleep. He was in his 83rd year. Born in Ramsay the son of the late Marion Sutherland and William McEwen he was educated at the 7th line school and farmed all his life in that district. In 1904 he married the former Emma Turner, who survives. Mr McEwen was a member of the Jovial Sports Baseball Club, a thriving organization in the Ramsay district in early days. Surviving besides his widow are two sons, Melvin of Hamilton, and William of Ramsay; one brother and one sister, Robert of Fort George, B.C. and Mrs Albert Jarvis (Elizabeth) of Silverton, B.C.

    William married Emma Turner in 1904. Emma (daughter of John S.     Mr William McEwen
    The death of Mr Wm McEwen of Ramsay on Sunday severed one of the very few links which now connected the early settlement of this part of Canada with the past. Not only does his long life emphasize this connection, but the fact that he was the first white child born in the township, and that he first saw the light beneath the covering of a brush tent hastily erected, tends to accentuate it. The father died when he was young and being the eldest of the family he had to assume a large share of the burden of life and was prevented from taking advantage of even the meagre educational advantages of that time, but he was a great reader and everything from which he could gain knowledge was devoured with avidity in his spare moments. He was twenty years a member of the Ramsay library, and many of the best books therein helped him to expand his mind. About six years ago his eyes gave out and he became totally blind, a direct result of the strain caused by reading. In 1851 he was married to Miss Marion Sutherland, a sister of the late Angus Sutherland, and to them ten children were born. Two died in infancy and the eldest, Thomas, in manhood. Those still living are Mrs (Rev) Whitelaw, Mrs J. Sutherland, Stafford; Mrs Thos Bailey in Quebec, Mrs Jas Bailey in Alberta, Robert in the States, William at home, and Mary in town. Mrs McEwen died about two-and-a-half years ago. The funeral took place on Tuesday to the eighth line cemetery. Mrs Jas Black and Mr Robert McLean of Ramsay are probably the only ones left of those who were of Mr McEwen's age.

    William married Marion Sutherland in 1851.     Mrs William McEwen, sr.
    There passed away on Monday of this week an aged resident of Almonte in the person of Mrs Wm McEwen, of town. Deceased lady had been in poor health for some time past and her demise was not unexpected. Mrs McEwen was born in Ramsay 74 years ago. She was married to Mr Wm McEwen 54 years ago and lived with him on their farm in Ramsay township until last fall, when the aged couple came to town to spend the remainder of their days. To them were born a family of ten children ? four boys and six girls. Of these three are dead ? Margaret, who died in childhood, and Angus, the eldest of the family, who passes away in his youth. Thomas died some years ago and was survived by a wife and two children. Of the remainder of the family Mrs (Rev) Jas Whitelaw, lives a Omemee, Ont; Lizzie, (Mrs Thos Bailey), of Quebec; Mabel (Mrs James Bailey), British Columbia; Mrs Sutherland, of Stafford township; Mary, at home, Robt, in the States, and William at home. Besides these is the aged husband, who is now blind, and who for the past few months had been resided with his son in Ramsay. The old gentleman is 84 years of age. The deceased lady was a sister of the late Angus Sutherland, sr., and was much respected by all who knew her for her kind disposition. She will be missed by many to whom she was a friend in times of trouble, and to the bereaved ones the sympathy of all is extended.

    The Late Enoch Giles
    Mr Enoch Giles, a well known resident of Ramsay, passed away on Friday morning, aged 72 years. Deceased
    was born and lived all his life in the township. He had been in poor health for some time and a week before his
    death sustained a stroke from which he never rallied. he is survived by six sons and four daughters, his wife
    having predeceased him by five years. The sons are William, Charles, James and Herman, in Ramsay, Elijah in
    Lanark and John in Drummond. The daughters are Mrs. John Ramsbottom, Lanark Township; Mrs Geo. McCall
    of Ramsay, and Jessie and Ethal at home. Deceased was a member of the Anglian church, a man well known
    and much esteemed. The funeral took place Monday to St. George's cemetery at Clayton.

    Enoch married Margaret Manson in 1870.     The Late Mr T.W. Kellough
    After being a sufferer for several years with an affection of the heart, Mr T.W. Kellough passed on to the Great Beyond on Tuesday of this week. The late Thomas Wilson Kellough was born on the second line of Ramsay sixty years ago in April, 1858, being a son of the late Mr and Mrs John Kellough. After his marriage to Miss Margaret S. Robertson thirty-one years ago they lived on a farm on the same concession until ill-health compelled him to give up the arduous duties of farm life and five years ago they came to Almonte and took up residence on Ann street. Besides his widow, five of a family are left. These are J.E. Kellough, of Sutherland, Sask; J. Clarence Kellough, Ramsay; Mrs Chas Giles, Ramsay; Miss Louise and Master Wilbert, at home. One brother and four sisters are also living ? Mr Robert Kellough, Almonte; Mrs D. Sutherland and Mrs A.C Dunlop, Carleton Place; Mrs W.S. Moir, Almonte, and Mrs John Halpenny, Ottawa. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from his late residence on Ann street to the Presbyterian cemetery at the eighth line. Service at the home at 2 p.m.

    Mrs T.W. Kellough Is Called By Death
    Former Resident of Clayton Mourned By Many Throughout District
    Another link of the older generation was severed in the death of Margaret Scott Robertson, at the R.M. Hospital on Tuesday, March 27th. News of her demise occasioned widespread regret in town and district. Deceased was born in Ramsay on December 16th, 1866, the daughter of the late James Robertson and Jeannette Watt. In 1887 she married Thomas W. Kellough who predeceased her on November 26, 1918. To this union were born five children, all surviving: Ernest of Saskatchewan; Clarence of Union Hall; Jeanette, Mrs Chas Giles, Union Hall; Louise, Mrs Harold Robertson of Almonte, and Wilbert of Detroit, Mich. Also surviving are three brothers, William of Halleybury; Ernest of Saskatchewan and George of Union Hall. All of the deceased's married life was spent at Clayton where she was loved by all. An active member of the Clayton church and a valued member of the community she leaves many pleasant memories. After the death of her husband, Mrs Kellough came to Almonte, to reside, where she was a member of Bethany United church. The funeral services were held today (Thursday) from the home of her son-in-law, Mr Harold Robertson, 10th concession, Ramsay, at 1.15 p.m. thence to Bethany United church where funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., with Rev C.D. McLellan officiating. The lengthy cortege and numerous floral tributes testified to the general esteem in which deceased was held. The pallbearers were six nephews: Kenneth Robertson, George Robertson Russell Robertson, Alfred James, Percy Dunlop, and Carl Riley. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

    5. 7. Jeanetta May Kellough was born on 5 Apr 1893 in Union Hall, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 24 Jun 1972 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
    6. Sarah Louise Kellough was born on 1 Mar 1899 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 19 Aug 1990 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 22 Aug 1990 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
