    George W. Bennett
    The funeral of the late George W. Bennett of Toronto, will be held from the C.P.R. station Friday morning on arrival of the north bound local. Interment will be in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Deceased was married to Annie Cowie of Almonte, who predeceased him in 1940. He was a son of the late Rev John Bennett, D.D. and Mrs Bennett who resided here for many years.

    George married Annie Garland Cowie on 7 Feb 1900.     Funeral of Mrs Bennett
    Funeral service for Mrs George Bennett, resident of the Capital for 36 years who died on Saturday, was held at the chapel of Hulse and Playfair Limited, 315 McLeod street, on Tuesday afternoon with Rev F.S. Milliken officiating. Following the service the remains were taken to the Auld Kirk cemetery at Almonte for burial. Among the many beautiful floral offering received by the bereaved family were wreaths from the manager and staff of Canadian Westinghouse, Halifax; Margaret Bottome Memorial Circle, King's Daughters' Guild, and the Bridge Club. Chief mourners were her husband, of 396 Lyon street; one son, Frank, of Halifax, and a daughter, Mrs J.C. Shorter, of Toronto

    Francis Cowie
    Mr Francis William Cowie, a former ex-deputy reeve of Almonte, died at an Ottawa hospital on Thursday. Born in Almonte 78 years ago. Mr Cowie spent most of his life here, but he had been in the west for nearly 15 years lately. During his life he filled many important positions in Almonte, including being a member of the Almonte town council, and deputy reeve, In politics he was a Conservative, and also took a keen interest in municipal matters. He owned a large pump factory in Almonte, and latterly spent a great part of his time travelling in the west, attending to his numerous interests. During the winters, he lived with his daughter, Mrs George Bennett. In addition to his daughter, Mrs Bennett, Ottawa, and two little grandchildren. Francis and Monie, he is survived by a sister, Mrs Porteous, Seattle, Wash. The funeral took place from the residence of Mrs Bennett, 196 Lyon street, to the Central Depot, enroute to Almonte, where interment took place on Saturday morning. There were many old friends at the funeral.

    At Almonte, on Thursday evening, Sept 7th, Annie Garland, wife of Mr F.A. Cowie, aged 40 years and 5 months.

    The Late Mrs Frances A. Cowie
    We regret to have to announce the death of Mrs F.A. Cowie, which took place at her home here last Thursday night, at the comparatively early age of 40 years, after a few weeks' illness. Mrs Cowie had been suffering from a neuralgic affection, and Thursday morning paralysis set in, which brought her life to a close half-a-day later. Deceased's maiden name was Annie Garland. She was born in the township of Goulbourn, where she resided until her marriage with Mr Cowie about twenty-one years ago. Deceased was a devoted wife and an affectionate mother, and will be greatly missed by her sorrowing husband and two daughters, who have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. The funeral took place to the eighth line cemetery on Saturday, and was largely attended.

    (Medical):Mr. John Garland, of Goulbourn, familiarly known as "Big John Garland," died on Sunday last. He weighed 300 pounds, and was so large that a coffin had to be made specially for him. He was highly respected, and his funeral on Tuesdy was a large one.

    January 28 - Mr. John Garland died at his residence on the 11th line of Goulburn on the 26th inst. Deceased was well known in the county, being of such a disposition as to make and hold friends.

    He was a man of powerful physique, standing over six feet in height, and weighing over 250 pounds. In politics he was an ardent Conservative, until the Jesuit question came up, when he endorsed the Equal Rights platform.

    His parents were among the first settlers of the township of Goulburn, his mother dying about two months ago, at the advanced age of 93 years. Four daughters and one son are left to mourn over his demise.

    His popularity as a citizen was evidenced by over 100 vehicles attending his funeral, the services of which were conducted by Rev. Mr. Coleman at St. John's, Ashton, in the absence of the incumbent, Rev. Mr. Robertson.
