    A familiar figure on By Ward Market where he was weighmaster and collector for the past 12 years, Thomas L. Hamilton died suddenly at his home, 415 Elgin street, Wednesday afternoon, He was at his usual post during Tuesday's market and seemed in good health. During his service with the city, "Tom", as everyone called him, weighed hundreds of tons of meat and coal and became known to farmers and dealers for miles around. Reporters "covering" the market beat were always certain of getting a cheery message from him as they made their rounds. "He was one of the most efficient men we ever had", T.A. Hand, market superintendent, said today. Born near Almonte, Ont., Mr Hamilton was the son of the late Duncan and Agnes Hamilton. Educated at Almonte schools, he married Ruth Dauley there before coming to Ottawa in 1925. Mrs Hamilton predeceased him in Ottawa four years ago. Before taking the By Ward Market post in 1930, Mr Hamilton worked for various department stores in the city, including Charles Ogilvy, Limited, and C.D.S. He was a member of the Pembroke Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of the Rebekah Lodge, I.O.O.F., and of the Pembroke Masonic Order, also. In Ottawa he attended Knox Presbyterian Church. Surviving are three sons, Roy, of Pembroke; Allan, of Ottawa, and Morris, of Sault Ste Marie; one sister, Nellie Hamilton, of Ottawa, and two brothers, G.J. Hamilton, of North Bay. Three grandchildren, one in Pembroke and two in Sault ste Marie, also survive. Funeral services will be held at the parlours of George H. Rogers, Ltd, 172 Elgin street, on Friday at 1.30 p.m. Burial will take place in Auld Kirk cemetery, Almonte.

    A host of friends and acquaintances in Ottawa and the surrounding district are mourning the passing of Thomas L. Hamilton, who died suddenly on Wednesday of last week while visiting friends in Carleton Place. Born in Almonte, he was a son of the late Duncan Hamilton and Agnes Lang, of Almonte. Going to Ottawa quite a number of years ago, he was employed with various departmental stores. until 12 years ago when he became weigh-master and collector at By Ward Market. His wife, the former Ruth Dauley, predeceased him by four years. In Ottawa, Mr Hamilton attended Knox Presbyterian church, He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Pembroke and the I.O.O.F, and Rebekah Lodges. Surviving are three sons, Roy, of Pembroke; Maurice, of Sault Ste Marie; and Allan Hamilton, Ottawa' two brothers, J.G. Hamilton, of Toronto, and J.H. Hamilton, of North Bay. Also surviving are three grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted at the parlours of George H. Rogers, 172 Elgin street, on Friday afternoon, by Rev Dr Woodside, of Chalmers United Church. Interment was made in Auld Kirk cemetery, at Almonte. Representatives of Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges, associates and friends on Friday afternoon paid tribute to the memory of Mr Hamilton. Among those who attended the service was G.H. Bryson, superintendent of City Engineering Department; T.A. Hand, market superintendent; H.I. Morgan, Roy Walsh, O. Gervais, J. St Pierre, William Slatteryl H.S. Graham, G.O. Fortune, R. Birtch, J.H. McLeod, G.W. Willoughby, E.J. Morgan, George Painter, M.E. Lynch, J. Foley, D.R. Hamilton, J.B. Wilson, P. Savage, Cpl J.L. MacCormack, M. MacLeod, James Jackson, L.M. Price, A.D. Powers and B. Grayson Bell. Among the floral tributes were those from the Auditor General's office, the market and coal weighing staff; staff of Stevenson's Drug store, Kisean Rebeckah Lodge No 120, Pembroke; Masonic Lodge, A.F. and A.M., No 128, Pembroke; officers and members of Pembroke Lodge, I.O.O.F., No 203; friends from the tennis club; The Club, North Bay; The Bridge Club; The Picadilly Koffee Shop.

    Ruth Danby, beloved wife of Thos L. Hamilton, 415 Elgin St, Ottawa, passed away in an Ottawa hospital, Feb 3. She had been ailing but death came peacefully. Besides her sorrowing husband, she leaves three sons, Roy Hamilton, Pembroke; Allan Hamilton, Ottawa, and Maurice Hamilton of Sudbury; five sisters, Mrs John Turriff, Montreal; Mrs Henry Van Wiggerin, Clinton, N.Y.; Mrs Wm Deeth, Turrist, N.J.; Mrs H.W. Thomas, Highland Park, N.J., and Mrs Alex Turriff, Allan, Sask. Three brothers also survive, J.C. Danley, Ottawa; George Danby, Morrisburg and Frank Danby, Winchester, also three grandchildren, Miss Danby Hamilton, Pembroke; Miss Marjory Hamilton and Master Billy Hamilton, Ottawa. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, Feb 6th with service at 2.30 Dr Johnson of Knox Presbyterian Church officiated, and the body was placed in the vault at Beechwood Cemetery, until spring.

    Funeral Service for D. Hamilton
    The funeral service of Duncan Hamilton, an old resident of the Ottawa district, who died Sunday evening at the age of 86 years, was held last night of his late home, 130 Waverley street. The service was conducted at eight o'clock by Rev Dr J.W. Woodside, associate pastor of Chalmers United Church, and was attended by many relatives and friends. A large number of floral tributes evidenced the esteem in which he was held by his many friends. Chief mourners were his four sons, J.G. Hamilton, of Toronto; J. Harry Hamilton, of Capreol; T.L. Hamilton and W.G. Hamilton, of Ottawa; two daughters, Miss Margaret and Miss Nellie Hamilton, of Ottawa; also several grandsons. The body was taken to Almonte this morning on the Pembroke local. Interment was made in Almonte. Among those present at the funeral were Robert Anderson, Albert Clarke, T. Lang, of New York; H. Cavers, Robert Barnett, J. Cherry, A. Neilson, Robert Young, A. Armstrong, W.C. Beck, A.V. Brown, A. McLean and others.

    Mrs Agnes Hamilton
    Attended by many friends from Ottawa and outside points the funeral of Mrs Agnes Hamilton was held from her home, 129 Waverley street, Ottawa, Saturday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev Dr John W. Woodside, of Chalmers United Church and following the service was made at Almonte. The service at Almonte was conducted by Rev James Blanchard, of Trinity United Church, in the place of Rev John R. MacCrimmon, who was to have officiated. Rev Mr MacCrimmon's mother, Mrs Isobel MacCrimmon died suddenly Saturday morning. Among the many beautiful floral tributes received were those from Charles Ogilvy Limited; John M. Garland and Sons; Timber and Grazing Land Branch, Department of the Interior. The chief mourners were four sons, T.L. and W.G. Hamilton, Ottawa; J.G. Hamilton, Toronto, and J.H. Hamilton, Capreol, Ont; two daughters, Misses Margaret and Nellie Hamilton at home and one sister, Mrs John Sutherland, Almonte. Also mourning were four grandsons. A sister, Mrs R.J. Duncan, Pilot Mound, Man., and granddaughter and three great grandchildren were unable to be present. Among those present from out?of-town were Roy Hamilton, Pembroke; Ross Hamilton, Toronto, a nephew; F. Hall and son and Robert Hall, Mr and Mrs Robert Taffle and Mrs Giff, Smiths Falls, Mr and Mrs J.W. Smith, Antrim, Ont; Miss Wilson, Almonte; Miss Aikin and Mrs Symes, Appleton, Ont.     Mrs Gavin Hamilton
    After a short illness, Mrs Margaret Hamilton, widow of the late Gavin Hamilton, laid down the burden of this life, and event which terminated a long and useful existence. The deceased was a daughter of the late John Neilson, and was born in Ramsay over eighty-one years ago, and was one of a family of four sons and four daughters. Her brother's were John, George, James and Matthew Neilson, and her sisters, Mrs Wm Lang, Mrs Wm Smiths and Mrs John Thom. The deceased was married to Mrs Thos Lang who died not long afterwards and later on she married Mr Garvin Hamilton. Hers is the third death in the family within a short time, Mr Hamilton having died the end of March of last year and her son, James C. at Moosejaw, a few months ago. The late Mrs Hamilton was a woman much loved and respected -- a woman whose life was an unremitting testimony to her faith in the living principals of Christianity with which she identified herself in the days of childhood and consistently espoused throughout her long life. The funeral took place this (Thursday) afternoon to the eighth line cemetery, and was attended by many who were desirous of showing their respect for her memory.
